Wavy Lines even after replacing the 2 Convergence IC's

I have replaced the common problem and the set still continues to have the wavy lines that look like 3d without the glasses. I had recently moved to another state and the TV was on a truck and after getting it here it worked fine again like before then back to the wavy lines. I have read that there where some bad solder joints or bad caps in certain spots on this set. Can someone give me a little more detail on the components they have replaced to fix this common problem. After trobleshooting and viewing over schematic i still feel it may need the PIP module but thats 400.00 and i would hate to replace it if all i have to do is replace some caps somewhere.

I dubt very much that the PIP module is causing a convergence problem. if you do think there is a PIP problem though, there is a repair kit available at mcmelectronics.com. Do a search for Hitachi PIP kit. It cost I think about 8 or 9 bucks. I would say you should take some voltage measurements and trace out the b+ to the source as thats where Im thinking your problem lies. In these sets I have found numerous problems relating to convergence, and most were found to be bad solder connections at the b+ supplys such as resistors caps and or jumpers in the board. Also double check your work, when you replace the IC's. I have seen a plug have way into the socket cause all sorts of intermittant problems also. Good Luck PS Please do not forget to rate this thread.

RCA HD52W59 Wavy lines

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Below are more details for both items. Also, complete repair kits with instructions and repair support are avail from site such as www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. The power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

What you will need to do is convergence. You can get a repair kit from TvRepairKits.com . It includes replacement parts, step by step instructions, support, etc.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.
