Problem connecting cable wires for Sony PFM-42B2 42 in. Plasma TV

We just purchased the above tv 2nd hand. We are having problems hooking the tv up to cable and finding how to turn on the volume. We have normal cable wires of red, yellow and white. The tv connections aren't the same colors. Do we need to buy special cable wires to connect to tv. We have the remote and there is no volume button on the remote. We have no clue how the volume works. Please help. Thanks

This is a monitor, not a TV. You need a VGA, SVideo or composite connection for video. There are S-video modulators to convert your RCA signal to S-video. About $30 at Radio Shack or Best Buy.The audio is pass through only. You must have external speakers with an outside power source. If you don't have an amplifier for outside audio you can use a cheap set of computer speakers.

I have this screen and my version does not include audio - I need to connect to an external amplifier, in my case my home theater.

I dont know what chords to use to hook up a dvd player to the pfm-42v1 tv. the tv doesnt have a yellow, red or white connection

Hello bobbylanetra,
if your tv does not have the composite connection (the red, white and yellow), I am going to assume that you have a coax in though. So what you should do is get an RF modulator. Connect your dvd player OUT to the RF modulator IN with the composite cable, then use a coax cable and connect the RF modulator OUT to the coax IN of the tv. That should solve your issue. I hope this helps or if not give me a feedback, good luck.

Need a cable to hook tv to dish network box

Use and HDMI cable if your tv supports it. This Cable is convienent and will provide the best audio and video quality. They range greatly in price. You can get a good $20 cable at any major retailer.

I have a sony pfm-42b1 plasma tv with 2 vga inputs an 1svideo input.. i want to connect my ps3 hdmi cable to the vga input. i purchased the cable but nothing shows.. thanks for your help

you should change it from hdmi to cable. You can do it only on a hdmi tv when you do that you can use it for the pfm-42b1e because i had the same problem too. when you plug your ps3 to a hdmi tv you go to settings-display settings- video output settings than you change it to av multi. After you do that you can use it on pfm-42b1e

Cannot even find where to plug to aerial point into the sony plasma flat panel display tv PFM-42V1

PFM-42V1 has no ability to receive channels through aerial / cable.
You can hook direct video cables from dvd player, vcr, PC etc.

Watching Cable TV

this Sony is a MONITOR not a TV. You need a cable box or a satellite tuner/receiver. There is no built in TV Tuner in this model

Loss of the color Red....Possibley others on my plasma

If you are lucky, it could be an open resistor or defective IC. Otherwise, I see a new TV in your future as the Plasma display would cost nearly $5500 for the part alone. If the fireplace is used much, I would not mount a TV above it, especially a plasma set which generates a lot of heat all by itself. If the fireplace is only used occasionally and you want to put the replacement set in the same spot, then I would consider a LCD model instead.
