When I turn on the oven, it will not heat. For the last couple of months, the oven has worked "when it wanted to". I could turn it on and wait anywhere from 1 minute to 1 hour for it to heat up. Last night it never heated up. I had it on for hours with no heat. The igniter is not glowing at all. The broiler does work, however, and the igniter glows on that. Could this problem be the igniter? Is this something that can be fixed on our own from inside the oven, or from the back? Is there a place I can get a detailed breakdown for fixing it ourself? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Dean, sounds like your ignitor failed. This is a pretty easy job that you can do by yourself. Usually there is 2 screws in the oven bottom in back that come out. From there you lift the bottom panel out exposing the flame spreader. Remove the flame spreader and the ignitor is sitting right there. This is usually held in with a couple 1/4 in hex screws. The new ignitor will either come with a harness or just wires. You can splice the new one in with ceramic wire nuts or if it has a harness, follow the wiring to where it connects. I find just splicing the new one in is easier. I have 2 part numbers depending on your P-number..0316223 and 3194001. Look them up on the net and see which one matches your ignitor. Oven igniter lights OK, but no gas flow, hence no oven flame. Top Broiler works ok -- Do not have manual so need to know if this would be the safty valve, and would need to know where it is located.
