Question about Delphi Roady XT XM Radio Receiver

1 Answer

Power Problem I use my Roady exclusively at home. When I try and power it up (in its home docking cradle) the screen flickers but it won't turn on. Same problem when battery - powered. I tried a different cradle and same problem so the problem seems to be in the Roady. I tried contacting Delphi for repair - a total waste of time. Can you recommend an after market 3rd party repair service for the Delphi Roady? Thanks, MG

Delphi roady2 SA10085 XM Radio Receiver with Car Kit

Sounds like its the dock itself. Have you tried using the home dock with the vehicle power or visa versa? This should help you confirm what the problem is. You can get a replacement power adapter here:

A cradle may be difficult to find, but TSS Radio can help you look.

I have 12 volt power coming to the cradle, and power coming out of the pin connector in cradle, but the SP5 does turn on.

Check the center pin on your unit, and also check if your dock connector has any damage. If it is not damaged, then push on the unit while it is docked. If it turns on after 30 seconds then you have a cold solder joint on your power connector. Just remove the back cover and solder the barrel connector's pins back down. There is one on the left and one on the right, both must be soldered in order to receive power.

My roady xt does not have a fm select option on the menu

You need to have it in the AUTO base/cradle - AND - you cannot have anything plugged into the LINE OUT or AUX OUT jack, as it will disable the FM transmitter. Try unplugging the audio output, then you'll be able to select the FM transmitter again. I believe that they removed the option from the HOME cradle/dock all together because of regular AM/FM radio stations complaining to the FCC that the transmitters were too strong (in other words, they wanted to hurt satellite radio competition or slow it down as much as possible by forcing Sirius and XM go back and redesign their radios for a much weaker or NO FM transmitter).

When I press the power button the screen flashes once & then goes blank again. Some times I see a quick flash of "XM-Radio" This started happening overnight one night-nochanges on our part.

I had exactly the same problem with my Roady XT. The power supply gradually failed, with the symptom that the reception kept getting weaker and more spotty. Finally, the Roady would not turn on. The screen flashed as you describe. I happened to have another 5VDC, 2A power supply in the closet from some other electronic gismo from the past (I save the power supplies just in case). the connector on the old power supply was not correct for the Roady XT, but a little surgery put the new plug on the old supply... (verified by a volt meter). When I plugged it in the Roady quickly turned on and showed full signal strength. This had never happened in 2 years of use. Apparently this radio needs more power than the stock power supply can provide. Now it "loads" stations in 2-3 seconds and never fades.

Overheats and cuts off

check the antenna and see if its grounded out anywhere, like if its chaffed and grouned to the car somewhere. If not try turning on the unit outside of the car or using it in the home dock, if it does the same thing its a problem with your unit or car dock

No FM Frequency option

I had the same problem with all three of my Roady XTs. I posted a video with directions for solving the problem on YouTube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGMWf0aUTjw

Basically, you just need to have the antenna unplugged when you power up, and push menu right away, then select. Not sure why, but it worked on all of my Roady XTs. On the oldest one I had to push menu more than once. Good luck!
