Question about Toshiba 42H82 42" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

3 Answers

Jittery picture I have a Toshiba 42H82 that initially had a jittery picture only on start-up. After warming up the picture would stabilize. It is now to the point where the "jittery" picture is constant even after warming up. When in picture-in-picture mode one side does have a stable picture. I had a service call and was told that I need to have the PIP mods replaced (or my hyper module rebuilt). I would like to change the necessary parts myself. Any asistance would be appreciated.

Screen rolls and is jittery

If you have room to install extra memeory, do so and see what happens. If you still have the same problem, it could be that your video card is defective.

It takes about 5-10 minutes to warm up, then the picture is fine. While warming up the picture wavy and jittery untill it warms up. Is this a picture tube issue?

You have bad capacitors in the power supply or around the 5v & 9v regulator circuits. If you have a meter just measure the outputs of the regulators. If you don't know what a voltage regulator is or does you should call a qualified repair shop. Estimate repair cost $250

Hi,

Possibly either a tracking problem or the video heads are dirty. Please try a head cleaner which looks like a VHS tape but is meant for removing any dirt on the video head. Most models come with a liquid solution. Tracking normally is automatic nowadays, however, there are some variations and manual tracking (or bt the remote) should correct any jittery images.

If neither of the above is corrective, then your unit would require the services of a qualified professional.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Toshiba 57H81 picture bounces. Can't tell if horiz. or vertical.

Unstable picture, wavy, jittery, and loss of sync are a symptom of bad capacitors in the hyper module. The problem is worse when the set is cold, but when warm the sympton gets less or goes away. In the latter stages the problem never gets better even after the set has been on for hours. There are about 6 surface mounted caps (10mf/16) inside the shielded Hyper module. The module is vertically mounted behind the jack panel and can be unplugged from its socket after unsoldering the 4 anchor tabs on the bottom side of the PCB. This type of repair should be made by a qualified technician do to the complexity of chassis removal and expert soldering skills.
