Water smelling ANy ideas how we can stop the waste water smelling. We have our washing machine in our basement/cellar. The waste water goes into a tub/container. In the tub is a submersible pump which pumps the water up to ground level drains. There is a make-shift lid on the tub and about 5 litres of water always remains in the tub. After a few weeks the water starts to smell a bit and I'd like to know if I can add anything to the residual water 9 say once a week ?) to stop it smelling. Otherwise I have a laborious job of pumping out all the water and hand cleaning...which takes ages !!

May I suggest the same types of chemicals you use in RVs to keep the smell of the waste down... That stuff works wonders in them situations and it seems like it would do that same in yours.

Although it might not be the most ecological solution, you might add a small amount of bleach to the container, once a week (let it act for some hours before you use the washing machine again - at night for example). I'm pretty sure it will help! Good luck!

My hotpoint wmd962 smells of stagnant water and the clothes come out smelling worse than when they went in?

By the sound of this, the waste pipe is probably connected under your sink. If this is the case then water flows back from the waste pipe and u bend. Just check and ensure your grey waste pipe is raised above the level of the u bend this should stop the problem. Also use a little soda crystals to clean pipes. Hopefully this will resolve your problem.

since the water stops running in and goes to the agitation mode when you blow on the tube, it is more than likely the pressure switch - one thing to check though, put it in the fill cycle [with water running in] and unplug the power cord. the water should stop running in. if it doesn't, the fill valve is sticking open and should be replaced

Do you have a U bend in the wastepipe that takes the water away from your machine

If not then any smells from the pipe run can come back up the outlet pipe

Once you have ran the machine it flushes away the old water and the smell goes away

How high can the outlet hose from a Kenmore Series 90 washing maching pump. Location is in basement with not drain but could get to basement window and then to drain. Window approx. 3 feet from top of...

The pump should be able to move waste water 3 feet above the washing machine but if that fails, then you could always buy a sewage ejector set up ( plastic barrell with internal pump and water level sensor) . Those have a highjer pupm head pressure and would be able to move water up a column further than a washing machine pump. IN all probability, you will be ok at 7 - 9 feet from floor.

The 2 probs could be related.
The first you need to do is remove the dispenser drawer, and thoroughly clean every part of it, particularly the conditioner compartment, poke clear all the tubes and apertures you can see,the problem is caused by a blockage.
The smell is related to the fact that the waste pipe is probably connected to your sink waste, you need to remove the pipe and check for partial blockage, or if it goes to an outside sink , then you need to get some kind of drain cleaner to pour down the sink..
Also , at least once every 6 weeks do a hot wash with powder, but no clothes in, this helps to keep the m/c clean and prevent build up mould and dirt inside the m/c..
Clean the door seal regularly, when you finish a wash.and leave door open and dry it
This should help disperse the smell.

I found that WasherFresh worked better then the Affresh. What I really did not like is you cannot touch the Affresh tablets, WasherFresh is contained in a pouch and is not harmful to touch, because of the disolving pouch containing the chemicals. Also after reading the package the chemicals are not harmful to the environment.
WasherFresh removed the odor causing buildup and I now use it monthly as a preventive maintenance.
