Question about Acer Veriton 5100 PC Desktop
If you are still having troubles, try this. Click on start> run> type in msconfig> ok> click on the boot.ini tab> make sure the safeboot box is not checked.

If the System restore, does not work, you may have your pc set to safeboot or safe mode. This would be the reasopn why your ethernet card controller is not working as non of the required graphics or pci drivers will load in safe mode. Check by Start>run, then type 'msconfig' and look at the 'General Tab' and make sure normal or selective boot up radio button is ticked and not the diagnostic start up. Also go to 'Boot.INI' tab and make sure 'Safeboot' is not ticked. Click apply and restart pc.

Just type msconfig in run window and from there select bootup normally,it won't go to safemode again start-run-msconfig-boot normally

With most computers there is a black screen with a countdown timer that will select the last known configuration unless you choose something else. This is part of the Bios, I believe. When booting the computer you should see a countdown timer with one of a couple of options for booting. Choose a normal boot and see if that works. If you do not see this countdown timer screen when powering up then you may have to make changes to your Bios (select F8 when booting to get to the Bios menu) so that there is a delay before booting to OS. Just a thought. I agree with the other solution that it is likely the ethernet card does not work because those drivers are not NORMALLY loaded in Safe Mode.

Please remove the pci ethernet controller and restart the pc. If you are using windows xp go to safe mode by pressing f8 and do the following start -> programmer -> accessories -> system tools -> system restore. once the restore starts choose a date you fell your pc worked well and continue. Thats all your sytem restores to that date and try reistalling the pci ethernet cord with suitable drivers. give me feed back
