Question about Kenmore 54383 Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Emptying resivoir? We are removing the tile flooring in our kitchen and must move the fridge out of there. The problem is that we turned off the water line (we believe), and water is still coming out of the dispenser! We have left it in for fear that water will spill out if we remove the water line at the back. So question is A)Is the water going to spill out if we remove it? B)how do we drain the resevoir? (for future notice) C)how can we be certain that the water line we shut off in our basement is the correct line to the fridge? Joey V

If you shut off the right valve, water to the frige will be cut off. The dispensor may have a small spurt left from the pressure in the lines but it should quickly stop. No water will leak out the back valves since they are shut. Some water from the defrost cycles may be in the lower catch pan by the compressor but that's about it. If you have water off and can still get a full glass out the dispensor... then you don't have the correct valve turned off. Usually, there is a cut off valve in the wall just behind the refer to turn off the water. If you disconnect the hose once water valve is off only the water in the line will drain.

Using uberhause deluxe vinyl flooring (foam layer on back). Not recommended to install under kitchen counters, but can it be installed under fridge, stove, dishwasher & hearth pad (under wood stove)?

I am not familiar with the brand but cushioned vinyl can be laid under just about anything as long as you accept the downside - permanent pressure on the vinyl will cause sinkage over time until the deformation becomes permanent so should the fridge or washer, for instance needs moving at some future time, will be so deeply embedded they will need lifting out of the indentations as attempting to slide or roll them out would likely need a great deal of force and result in severe damage to the vinyl.

The vinyl could be laid under kitchen counters but again the counters would continue moving downwards over time until the compression of the foam is complete; making precision fitting difficult.

If I was facing the problem I would begin by laying some sort of base for the fridge, washer, etc. to stand on and provide a neat edge for the cushioned vinyl in approximate line with the kitchen counters. Marine ply or tiles for a base perhaps.

My newly laid porcelain floor tiles black matt slate effect look dirty after cleaning with water and a cloth. still looks like they have grout residue stuck to them. How can i clean them

Grout residue is removed with an acid residue remover. The installer should have done that--call him back. If epoxy grout was used (not likely) it will be a real problem to remove.

Where does the rubber membrane go when tiling a bathroom floor

tiles on wooden floors will always move and crack the grout/tiling cement
therefore the rubber membrane goes down first with out nails and then everything is laid on top
that way when the wooden floor moves , there is a water proof membrane to prevent the water from rotting the wood over time

Hi I moved in to a recently renovated home one year ago. The kitchen had new ceramic tiles installed, with sanded grouted filled in the 5/8 inch joints. I sealed the grout after moving in as I was told...

I have a similar problem. My builder used dimensional lumber for the joists. I asked him if thet would be sufficiently stiff for tile floors, and he said yes. Then after the cracks started, I asked him why the cracks, but he said he didn't know why. It's not necessarily the subfloor but the combination of joists, subfloor, and concrete backer boards under the tile. If you can access the joists under the floor, perhaps you can reinforce them with additional joists or stiffeners before regrouting.
As for me, I have done neither so far. Wife has not complained, so I spend my spare time helping people on FixYa. Like you, I fear regrouting will just lead to recracking, and I no longer have access to the joists. :o(

By the way, your question was sorted as a Harley Davidson question. You weren't riding you bike in the kitchen, were you?

Proline TDC7A Dryer (condenser)

Have you checked the connections from the pump unit to the water receiver? There are several connections at the rear of the unit which take the water from the condenser, to the pump and then to the reservoir, could be a leak? Run the machine where you can see the rear and monitor it, something may become apparent. Hope this helps. Richard
