My Olympus Stylus Verve has been powering itself off when I take a photo. When you push the shutter button, it turns itself off, retracting the lens. This doesn't happen every time. Sometimes, it works okay, and takes the photo. Other times it will not,and just shuts off when you try to take a photo. It also does not retain the time/date settings.
It was working fine, and then I re-charged the battery and ever since then this has been happening. It always shows a full batter charge when I turn on the camera though.
The power on button is located under de lens slyding thing, therefore probably is broken or just need to be glued to do that u will need to open the camera. the other u will need to replace a small battery on the mainboard. good luck

Are you talking about the sliding door that powers on the camera and covers the lens? There is a metal plate with two screws on the bottom of the sliding door that holds the door to the camera, try tightening the screws and see if that helps. Or else see if the door is slightly bent out of shape, and try to bend it back if you can. This is a common problem on the Stylus-300 camera, you can buy a replacement door from eBay -

Try the FOCUS LOCK feature. This feature allows you to focus on a subject roughly the same distance away from you, then re-compose your picture without losing that focus. Open the lens barrier fully. Look through the viewfinder at the AF Target Mark (the 4 lines in the center of the viewfinder). Position the AF Target Mark on a subject roughly the same distance away from you. Press the shutter button halfway until the green lamp lights. While keeping the shutter button pressed halfway, re-compose your picture, then press the shutter fully.
