Question about Cuisinart CMW-100 Microwave Oven

2 Answers

We've had the Cuisinart microwave for a little over a year. We've noticed lately that when the oven is not in use, there is a crackling sound, much like the noise a laptop makes when

The sound seems to be originating from the mesh area in the back of the oven.

I have the same problem with my microwave. Also have had it for just about 2 years. Were you able to find a solution?

The crackling (which sounded a little like a geiger counter) which I could hear when the oven was NOT running was coming from the speaker (where the beeps come from). I unplugged the oven, found the little speaker on the circuit board, yanked one of the wires off of it, and the crackling was be gone.

I strongly recommend you get it checked for safety sake, the crackling sound could be a short in the system.

I have a Cuisinart cmw-100 microwave everything works except for the turntable. any suggestions?

Order a new turntable motor. Turn the microwave upside down and you can see the little door in the center where you can install it. Pretty easy, really.

Is it normal for a microwave to make crackling noises when standing and not in use but plugged in ?

A microwave in standby mode should not crackle. There might be a slight humming sound from a transformer, but that should be all the noise it makes. You could have a transformer or control panel component that is failing.

Microwave won't heat

The problem is in the magnetron or the inverter board if 7 years old or less.

The oven doesn't work, the timer works and the light comes on

This is a strong indicator the magnetron has failed "heats food" and is the heart of the system. If microwave oven is a few years old better to invest in new.

A number of days ago we put two plates of food in the microwave to reheat them. There was a snap, crackle, pop noise. We checked to see there was no metal object in the unit....there wasn't ...we know...

Are you sure the plates were Microwave oven safe? Some dishes have metal in the colors of the design. A snap, crackle, pop noise normally means there is metal present in the oven.

My microwave is making a cracking sound like if it had metal in it but i took everything out and its still making the cracking sound. What could be causing this sounds if microwave is empty?

A contaminated wave guide cover will crackle and spark.
They should be periodically checked, cleaned or replaced.
Contact Maytag for replacement parts.
Hope this fixes your noise.

Crackling sound in microwave vent when power is off

By "powered off" can I assume you mean that it is plugged in and at idle, not cooking, just showing the clock?

If so, I'd say your control board is failing.

If my assumption is wrong, please write back with more details.

We regularly repair these control units for customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week with a one-year guarantee.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your model number) for more information & help.
