Make sure you have speakers plugged in to the "Green" audio out socket. you can use a set of earphones if you have to. You then need to go into the control panel and set the Default audio device. Unless the device has a little yellow or red mark on it in the Device Manager. in which case you have more than likely got a failed audio chip. A PCI sound card will give sound output if the rest of the Motherboard is good.

do you have any unknown devices in device manager? look for something with a yellow ? it should say multimedia controller. right click and update driver, then point the hardware wizard to the cd. if not go to bios then look for integrated peripherals then onboard audio, make sure it's enabled. then do the same as above.

Sound not coming in win xp sp3 even after updating correct sound driver?

Do you still have the unknown device in device manager? If so, you need to install a different driver. If not, go into device manager, expand Sound, Video, and Game Controllers. For each device under that heading, right-click the device, then click update driver software, choose "Search Automatically..." It will then go to the windows update site and see if there is a driver there that is listed as more recent, and it will install that driver, if such a driver is found. If that doesn't work, make sur ethat y ou manually find the correct sound driver installer, and then right-click whichever device obviously represents the sound hardware driver, and click Uninstall. Reboot afterward. Then reinstall the audio driver. If that doesn't work, you may have to reinstall windows.

Toshiba a25-s2792 No sound in windows 7

Yes,....good Ol' Windows updates. Known to knock a system partially out of commission.

Windows has lost the address to the Audio drivers. The reason it states Audio is working properly, is because Windows is full of it.

The Toshiba Satellite A25 series of Notebook PC's, did not come with Windows 7. It came with Windows XP. You, or someone else installed Windows 7.

The updates knocked the audio driver address file to the curb.
All you have to do, is install the Win7 installation disk again, and perform a Repair.
(Non-Destructive Installation)

OR, use the Restoration Disk, (Backup disk)

Toshiba eSupport does not provide audio drivers for Win Vista, or Win 7, for this model. Only Win XP,

{Do I think going to Device Manager, and rolling back the audio driver, or upgrading it, will help? NO }

Problem on the device driver/ motherboard

Boot under XP, go to Dell's website and download the XP driver for your laptop noting where it is saved. Don't install it, copy it to a thumb drive or a CD. Reboot into Windows 7 and then install the XP driver. You'll get a message that it isn't the correct one but choose install anyway. That chip doesn't fully support AERO in Win 7 but will do most everything you will need. If you want to disable the pointing stick on the keyboard, download the XP Dell trackpad software. That lets you go in and deactivate the pointing stick. I find it annoying.

No sound

You have to install the audio device drivers for the audio device to work. In case you don't have the installation cd here is a link for direct download from the official site. Choose your op. system (win XP, win 7 etc) and proceed to download and run the proper file.

In case of a problem or clarification or further details needed, don't hesitate to post me a reply before rejecting my answer.

when your friend give it to you did she/he also gives some cd installers? it says no audio device installed doesn't mean there's no audio card on it, it's just that windows xp doesn't support the audio card in the r40 laptop that you have. if you can do upgrade it to windows 7 it would be better because win 7 supports a lot of hardware. if you don't want just try to download the audio driver for you laptop. do you happened to know the audio card model of the laptop. you can see it as you turn on the your laptop you will see new hardware detected try to get the serial number of the device and ping me here so i can guide you were to download the sound card driver for you.thanks..

Audio problem

Hi,

Open device manager by right clicking on My Computer and check if the audio driver is working properly. Right click on audio driver - Properties - under general tab you will find a option " Device usage " - check whether it is " Use this device (enable) - selected. Go to Driver tab and click on update driver option. Check cables and speaker's connection. Open Control Panel - Sound and Audio Devices, here check for the options if they are muted.
If you still have the problem, then probably the audio port of the Motherboard is faulty, you may need to change it.
