No memory card error on canon powershot a400

Hi I keep getting a 'no memory card' error when I turn the power on my camera. It does have a memory card though. I even went out a bought a brand new memory card, still my camera won't work. Any ideas?

I'm having the exact same problem that ryswyfe described. And these were cards that worked before, so the suggestion about formatting them wasn't applicable.

I read that these older canon cameras cannot handle the new HC (high capacity) memory cards. for some reason they cannot do larger than a 32 MB (NOT gb) card, which is darn near impossible to find. stinks, because I love my little canon. and there is nothing wrong with it

Maybe you have to format the card before the camera recognizes it

I have a Canon A400 that is displaying the common 'memory card error' message. I've been through most of the tricks that I've found on the Internet but still no success. Tried multiple memory cards,...

There are several possible causes for "memory card locked", "memory card error", or "no memory card". The most common is trying to use a 4GB or higher SDHC card with an older camera made before SDHC format came out. Other causes include problems with the tiny slide switch on the side of the card, or the electrical contact switch internal to the camera. The problem may also arise from simple formatting problems if the card has never been formatted in the camera (note that this will also erase the card). Troubleshooting tips for this problem may be found at this link. By the way, if you are indeed using 2GB or less cards (as you should be for your older A400), then give the toothpick fix a try listed in the above link.

Put new optima sd hc memory card in screen says memory card error

Sorry but the A400 was designed well before the SDHC format came out. Your camera can only use standard SD cards (2GB or less).

I cannot review pictures on my Canon PowerShot A400

Yes, the first thing to try is a new memory card. They do go bad. As for the current card, hang onto it. You still may be able to retrieve the photos once you get back to your computer using retrieval software. See this link.

Canon Power Shot A400 will only work with original Canon SD card

Make sure you are using an SD card and not an SDHC card. The SDHC protocol is newer than your camera, and your camera does not support it. SD cards have capacities up to 2 GB. Your camera should work properly with any SD or MMC card.

Have lost manual for canon power shot A400 tried to insert new memory card (scan disc SDHC card 4gb) it it comes up with an error reading on camera screen? Thank you in adv for any help.

Love the A400, it's one of my all-time favorite Canon P&S cameras. But sorry to say your camera will not understand SDHC cards. This format came out well after the A400 was designed. The max memory the A400 can use is a 2GB standard SD card, no higher. Fortunately, these are very inexpensive these days, and run about $6 with shipping:

Canon A400

Having using standard LR6 batteries in a Canon before you will only get 3 or 4 pics max before it drains the batteries. You really need high power AA's like 2300mAH+ rechargeables for any good performance or Lithium AA's
