When I turn on the unit, it starts up but then turns itself off after about five seconds. I have tried to reset the microprocessor as directed in the owner's manual but that has not helped. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have a Denon AVR 2106 and it has the same issue. I tried to reset the microprocessor according to the owners manual to no avail. The amp will power on, but it will shut off within approx 3-4 secs.

We have the same problem! We thought our DVD player burned it out, because it was plugged into the Reciever itself, but now I am not so sure since there is the same problem happening to lots of other people.

See: http://www.denon.ca/hapdfs/avr2105mane.pdf, page 72. In my case, the problem was a connector between my receiver and television. I unplugged it from my receiver and it now works.

I got the same problem with my Denon AVR-2105/885

Your receiver is going into protection. The first thing to do is disconnect all speakers at the receiver. Unplug the power cord, then let it set for 30 seconds. Plug it back in and power it on. If it stays on, you have either a wire shorting out at the back of the receiver, something that has pierced the speaker wire en-route to the speaker, a wire touching the other at the speaker or a blown speaker.

Speaker wires should only be trimmed about 1/2" bare at the terminal and make sure you twist the braid so it does not fray. Then connect speakers one at a time, testing the receiver power each time until it either shorts and cuts out, or, you have solved the problem. Hope this helps. Hope your under warranty mate and if so hope its not in Australia as they cannot fix this problem. My denon was allegedly fixed twice but has now failed a third time (just out of warranty) and denon have turned their back on me.
SHAME ON YOU DENON.
