The set has the 3 strikes and you are out rule built into it.
Set will attempt 3 times to come on and if fails enter shutdown mode.
A short or an issue almost anywhere in power supply or high voltage circuit will cause this.
The only common cause is the set may have developed bad or cracked solder connections where the high voltage transformer solders in.
This happens because of poor soldering and expansion and contraction of the board happens when set gets hot and then cools off.
