Trigger don't release

Musgrave triggers were set at 2 pounds pull weight at the factory. There are two screws with lock nuts on them in the trigger assembly but they only alter the engagement between the trigger and sear, effectively shortening the travel needed to release the striker. This does not lower the trigger pull weight. You have to remember that in a bolt action rifle, you are pulling against the firing pin spring which in some cases can be quite heavy in terms of compression rate of the spring. Since most modern rifles ship from the factory at 4 - 8 pounds of pull, your Musgrave trigger is pretty light at two pounds. Using this in competition requires a standard pull weight, and your job as the shooter is to keep the rifle sighted in through the pull of the trigger past where the weapon fires a cartridge. The follow through is nearly as important as the actual aiming of the rifle. My advice is learn to live with the 2 pound pull.

If the bin-base release trigger seems to be jammed, separate the clear bin from the cyclone assembly, then reassemble, making sure you have both parts correctly aligned. Rule number two, always keep your fingers out of the line of fire.

When you are looking at the trap, it is sprung. That is, the mechanism is tripped, and the spring has flipped the bar to the "catch" position. You'll see the bar and spring. Look, and you will see another, single bar, connected on one end to the trap, with the other end loose. This is the trigger release bar. If you look at the bait tray, you'll see a place where the metal is pushed out on the side. This is the trigger. Here's how it works: You fold the spring bar over the bait pan, and hold it tight against the base, keeping your fingers out of the way (see rules 1& 2 above). While holding the spring bar down, use your other hand to bring the trigger release bar over the spring bar and to the bait tray. The end of the bar rests under the notch on the bait tray. As you are setting the bar, you'll slightly reduce your pressure on the spring bar. This pushes the release bar tighter against the notch. When the bar is in place in the notch, the trap is armed. When the mouse is tugging at the bait, the bait pan will shift and release the trigger release bar. It flips backwards, releasing the spring bar, which then catches the mouse.

The trigger is bad in the gun. It sound like the spring is bad, or you have some junk in the trigger not alowing it to release. Remove and inspect/clean the trigger.

Less Than Perfect
The Model 88 had its faults. The trigger moves with the lever and the resulting linkage to the sear results in a rather spongy, creepy trigger break. If you want to see your gunsmith turn pale, waltz into the shop with an M88 and ask for a crisp three-pound trigger.

If you already have taken the gun apart, don't be afraid to hone the parts on a stone , keep them flat, you don't want anything rounded off. Especially the sear. I found that quote up top from a winchester sight,

sounds like the trigger m8 the only way to cure it is to replace the molded circuit assembly 900475. but try cleaning the trigger switch and make sure the spring is seated properly. hope this helps m8

I'm not sure what your referring too, but Here is how it works. The trigger is snapped into two "rocker retainers" in the handle. when you pull on the trigger, it rocks and pushes on a rod that goes down to another shorter rod and that one pushes on the valve that releases the solution. A common problem was that the "rocker retainers" would break off and the trigger would not push on the first rod so the machine would not release solution. You will have to replace the handle half (called a trigger guard). The trigger itself has two plastic "springs" molded into it. This is all one piece with the trigger and they don't usually break. Also, when you remove and replace the handle, you have to pull the trigger to re-engage the two rods togeather or the machine will constantly spray solution. I hope this helps.

Follow the plastic extension that runs from the trigger through the length of the handle. This requires more disassembly that at just the trigger. At the end of the plastic extension you will find a triangular-shaped "ramp" that pushes against a "button" plunger that opens the valve that releases solution. When you release the trigger, the triangular ramp retreats and the plunger is supposed to be pushed back out by an internal spring in the valve. This plunger sticks because of accumulated soap from evaporated solution. Try cleaning that valve and plunger by running clean, hot water through the system OR replace the valve. In the future ALWAYS thoroughly flush the system with hot, clean water after using the machine.
