Scanner not set up

I have had good luck fixing that problem by opening up the scanner and cleaning the rails with alcohol then very lightly lubricating them.

use the manual and reset it, scan the default settings or reset to factory settings, load defaults

you have to re-teach the scanner

You have to install scanner and printer software came along with the HP 3030 model.Once setup complete it will try to do self diagnose the scanner connectivity.Then when you press the button on the scanner ,scanner will send the data to pc to activate the scanner software automatically.

The link between the scanner and the PC has been lost. You need to run the scan setup from the toolbox on the PC again and this will fix the problem.

If it had been working then stopped most likely just one setting has changed; the two things I would look at first is the password for the folder you are scanning to and and IP/Host Name of the computer you are scanning to.

Does your Domain require you to change your password on a regular bases? If so then the password set in the copier to access the folder on the computer may have changed and the new password needs to be set in the copier.

Also the person that setup the scanning originally may have set it to scan to the IP address of the computer you are scanning to but if the computer is setup for a dynamic IP address the IP will change from time to time and then the copier will not be able to find the computer you are scanning to. Change the IP that the copier is set to scan to, to the Host Name of the computer you are scanning to and that will no longer be an issue.

Unless you solve this problem, would you think of selling the scanner i need parts to fix mine

A multi-purpose printer scanner cannot scan negatives or slides.
You need a slide scanner or a flatbed scanner that is capable of scanning negatives and slides. Not all flatbed scanners are capable of scanning slides and negatives.

Actually a very common problem. Try the following:
1. Power down then re-power up the scanner.
2. Try slightly moving scanner. Sometimes a small change works to fix.
3. Change one of your scan setting to flatbed scan (not adf). Do a test scan under this setting. This will usually kick start scanner unit to unlock.
4. Last resort, by does also work...give it a medium slap on the side, sometimes unjams the scanner light.
5. Super last resort, power down over night, it almost always works the next day. (could be that lock up is heat related to scan lamp, dont know but just a guess).
Excellent scanner, so worth the effort to try these fixes.

Can you put some backing on the transparency and scan it like a regular item?

is your scanner, by chance plugged into a power strip?
