Question about GE GSS25JFM Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

No water at door

I have done the trouble shooting to a frozen line in the door near the outlet. Not sure where the heater is, or how to replace it. If I could find a electrical drawing I could determine if the heater was open. Thanks, Art

Many thanks, I will check into the law suite issue.

Just checked on law suite, looks like I am a few month late. I guess I will just have to live with it.

Art, did you check to see if your model was in this class action suite against GE regarding this problem? I know there has been many calls out there where GE sent new retro-fitted doors to correct this very problem. To answer the question about the dispenser heater; this heater is designed only removes moisture from the recess in high humidity conditions. You can get at it by removing the door liner. There is about 40 mounting screws and the cornes have double sided tape. After removing the liner, remove the styrofoam dispenser cover. There's the heater. I don't believe that this is your problem, I think the suite had to do with poor insulation in the freezer door..Catriver..post back.

Art, call GE service and inquire about it. If you put up enough fuss, they may just cover it...hope it works out..Catriver

Water dispenser not working ice maker okay water line to valves okay appears line in door frozen

GE has a fix for frozen water line in freezer door. WR49x10173 is a heater kit that is installed in the dispenser area. It uses a minor amount of energy, but enough to keep the area warm. You have to pull off the dispenser board, remove the 4 screws to remove the dispenser cradle and unplug the wiring. Then follow instructions to crimp on the heater wires. Allow about 3 days for frozen water line to defrost. .

No water from cold water facuet

Remove lower grill and disconnect the water line going through the freezer door hinge. Usually it is a push lock fitting, which requires you to push the ring2_bing.gif on the end of the fitting toward the center of the fitting while pulling (not hard) on the plastic tube. Now place a pan under the separated plastic hose and try the water dispenser. If water comes out, your problem is a frozen water line in the freezer door. A warmer freezer temp may help, or you can order and install a WR49X10173 water tube heater2_bing.gif. (the heater may take 24 hours to thaw the line, but I have used it successfully several times. Cost about $50) If no water comes out the separated tube when you try to dispense water, reconnect the tube at the hinge by pushing the plastic line back into the fitting. Now, at the back of the refrig., disconnect the water line going from the water valve to the fresh foods compartment. Try to dispense water. No water at valve outlet = bad valve. Water dispensed from valve now = frozen water filter or water line at back bottom of fresh foods compartment. (make sure you disconnect the right tube. If in doubt, disconnect them both, just get them back correctly so your icemaker continues to work) Send me additional comments if needed. Don't rate before you try all the steps.

Easiest way to thaw out a possible frozen water reservoir in my GE side by side fridge?

Hair dryer is the easiest way to thaw. To find cause: Remove lower grill and disconnect the water line going through the freezer2_bing.gif door hinge. If in doubt, disconnect them both, just get them back correctly so your icemaker continues to work) Send me additional comments if needed. Don't rate before you try all the steps.

If water filter or water line/ reservoir is frozen, thaw with a hair dryer. If reservoir is frozen, check to make sure there is no frost on back wall of inside freezer, preventing normal air flow, allowing cold air to enter fresh foods compartment through return air vent at lower back of fresh foods compartment, resulting in freezing of water line / reservoir and possibly food in bottom bin.

Not getting water from dispenser in door

if you can get ice but not water from the dispenser then suspect a frozen water line within the door . Check you get water to the connector at the bottom of the freezer door. Sometimes you can clear the blockage by connecting a steamer to the pipe but this will only be a temporary fix . If the pipe has frozen within 6 inches of the dispenser outlet then there is a heater mod that can be fitted WR49X10173
