Toshiba 51H84 The TV's convergence was off so we adjusted it and the picture looks good again, but the picture is also pulling in mainly on the sides and a little on the top and bottom. There is also a wave running thru the picture from the top to the bottom. Sounds like a capacitor to me but without a schematic it would be hard to find. Can you direct me to a couple location numbers or maybe I'm not even barking up the right tree?

Convergence on those sets will never be perfect in all parts of the picture. Name of the game is get the best you can without perfection all over the screen remembering that when you adjust one section it often affects another section adversely. And if a color is going to be out of whack it is preferable that it be the blue gun since a misconvergence with that color is less obvious than, say, the red gun. Capiche?

This tv have a problems known as a convergence problems,it dead.The tv have colors lines R,G,B mis alignment,have colors shadows picture or 3D picture? Still the convergece prob.The FL231 fuse near the FBT transformer it dead.The square fuses 3 rectangles fuses.One in the middle.

First thing that needs to be checked is the convergence IC's. Those IC's are located in the signal board and are really hard to remove. You need an experience technician to fix it for you :)

your looking to parts at the convergence area , either check for DRY SOLDER around the power supply area or replace the IC IN THE CONVERGENCE AREA starts with STK- ___ and numbers. try that , hope this helps

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution

CONVERGENCE SOLUTION

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.

Hello techman2429m, It looks like you may have a color convergence problem. when you dropped the TV the convergence/purity rings on the neck of the tube may have shifted or by changing parts you may have thrown off the convergence. I would suggest using a pattern generator and adjusting convergence also adjusting the purity settings. This I believe will clear up your problems.

The solution is you have to buy a new better tv with a good extended warranty in payments. JZ

Sounds like your red picture tube is not emitting enough brightness to balance the colors. A temporary solution could be to slightly increase the screen voltage of the red CRT to give a good black and white picture when the color control is turned all the way down. If the set has not been serviced in the last 5 years or so, and you're not ready for a new HDTV set, it may be worthwhile to get a technican to look at it and clean the dust off the lenses and mirror and evaluate whether a picture tube rejuvination might work along with the gray scale tracking adjustments.
