I believe I have an E18 problem with my A520, although I can't even get it to turn on long enough to get the error code. The camera shut down while low on batteries and the lens did not retract. Now it will not turn on (apart from an occasional blip of the green power light) and the lens will not go in. I've checked for misalignment...it looks even (unless, as I worry, I've made the lens worse by trying to push it back in.) I also can't push the lens in easily, as so many other people have talked about - I've tried and tried, using as much force as I feel is safe, and it won't budge. I've plugged in the A/V cord. I've taken out the batteries and held down the power button for 15 seconds to try to reset it. Nothing makes a difference. Am I right in guessing this is an E18 problem? If it is, I do not want to have to send it in! The camera is just a couple months past warranty, and I don't want to pay $$$ for a ridiculous problem that shouldn't have happened (the camera has never been dropped, it just happened to turn itself off abruptly.) There are instructions online for other models, but none for the A520. Does anyone know how I could diagnose this/do my own repair??
The E18 error message relates to a problem with the zooming mechanism (lens would not retract or extended) Press the power button on and hold it down while extending and twisting the telescopic zoom lens. It might fix you problem. In any case it could not make it worse Good luck!
