Backup your computer to another drive like a USB attached drive. You can also get another hard drive and rebuild the computer with it. Then attach your old hard drive as a slave or USB drive and retrieve any files you need. There is also imaging software like "Acronis true image" that can create an image of your drive that can be used later to retrieve files or restore the computer back to the state it was in when the image was made.
