Just put the Recovery Disk in the drive and the system should start booting from it. If not, pay close attention to the screen and when it shows you which key to hit to change the boot order or boot sequence hit it. Change the boot sequence to read from the CD drive. This is a temporary change on the boot sequence.

If you want to make a permanent change to the boot order or boot sequence you will need to hit the key that says enter Bios or System Setup and change it there.

SOURCE: loud clicking

You're going to have to narrow it down by removing components. Start by removing the hard drive, if the clicking stops then you know that it's a component that needs or uses the operating system. If it stops then put the hard drive back and remove other components, CD drive, keyboard, etc... until you can either locate exactly where it's coming from or it stops. The CD drive could be the culprit, and removing the keyboard will expose some of the inner workings so you can hear it better and possibly find what it is. This isn't a simple fix, it will take a little effort, but I believe you will find the problem, this is the exact same way that I would do it if you were to bring the computer to my shop.

Any driver that you are left without - try running the 'Unknown Device Identifier'.

It'll scan your Devices List, identifying ALL the information for each, rather than simply its name. You can download it from here:

Help how to format lenovo ideapad s300 in windows 7

If you want to format your entire hard drive (and reinstall windows) You'll need to insert the appropriate windows disk. If you want to reinstall 7, insert your windows 7 disk and boot off of the disk (When booting, it should start by showing a screen that says "Press any key to boot from CD..." and you can just press a key on your keyboard. From there, follow the on screen instuctions. When you get to the drive partitioning step, select your hard drive and partition you want to format. You can delete the partition you have and make a new one if you want to totally clean the computer (WARNING: This will literally delete everything on your computer. Everything). From there you continue and finish the setup (it may run for a while). And you have a fesh new hard drive and operating system install.

How to format a compaq

Formatting is used to erase yourhard drive. Many times, this is used to clean a hard drive after a virus or toperform a completely clean installation of a new operating system. A Compaqlaptop can be easily formatted, but formatting will only solve system problems, not hardware problems. The process should only be used to solve problems as alast resort, since it will erase all of your data.
1. Back up all data before performingthe format (if possible).2. Insertthe operating system disk and restart your computer and wait until prompt fromthe system.3. Strikeany key when prompted to begin running the disk.4.Choose between reinstalling yoursoftware or repairing. Reinstalling will allow you to format and thenreinstall. Repairing will bring you to a DOS menu. You will need to use FDiskwith each individual drive letter on your hard drive. Use this option if youhave a multiple partitions on your drive and only need to format a singlepartition.5.Choose "Full NTFS" formatif you choose to reinstall the operating system.Remember:Most users will only need to use thereinstallation option. This option is perfect for users with one partition orthose reinstalling or upgrading their operating system.
Never format your Compaq laptopwhile on battery power. If the battery dies during the format, you could ruinyour hard drive.Hope this helps, pleaselet me know if you need further assistance. Please don't forget to rateand comment if my solution was helpful, thanks!

How to Format a Computer

Want to know how to format a computer hard drive?Need to learn how to format your computer and start with a clean slate? Formatting a disk prepares the surface of the drive to accept and store data. Computers are often formatted before they are sold, donated, or returned to an employer. Likewise, computers with viruses or errors can be formatted and returned to their "out of the box" settings.

Warning - Formatting hard drive information does not permanently erase the data. Even after a computer has been formatted, deleted files can be easily recovered. If you want to permanently wipe your hard drive by completely overwritting hard drive data, check out WipeDrive.

Once you have your Startup Diskette, insert it into the floppy drive and restart your computer.

Select option #1 - Start the computer with CD-ROM support.

After a minute or so, you will see "A:>_".

Type "fdisk" and press Enter.

If asked to enable large disk support, select Y for Yes. (Note: Some versions of Windows 95 may not be compatible with large disk support. Select N here if it does not support the FAT32 file system.)

Select Option #1 - Create DOS partition or Logical DOS Drive.

Select Option #1 - Create Primary DOS Partition.

The drive integrity will be verified.

Unless you are planning to make multiple partitions, select Y when asked if you want to use the maximum available size for the partition and to make the partition active.

The drive integrity will be verified again.

When completed press the Esc key to exit fdisk.

Without removing the floppy disk, press the reset button on the computer or press the keys Ctrl then Alt then Delete and release them together. This will restart the computer.

Again, select the option to Start the computer with CD-ROM support.

When you see A:>, directly above it is a message about your CD-ROM drive. It will tell you the letter assigned to your CD-ROM drive, take note of it.

At the A:>, type "format C:" and press Enter.

Press the Y key then the enter key when asked if you want to proceed with the format.

The format will probably take some time, so be patient.

How to format compaq laptop nx6110

Hi

you could try to do this

Please try to save any files or pictures that you need before you do this either to a usb spare hard drive or a usb pen drive because you will loose it all if you format or reinstall windows

press the power on key as well as the F11 key
hopefully this will take you into the factory restore
which will format the hard drive while it restores

if you just want to format the hard drive itself then you could remove the hard drive
connect it to another computer via a usb cable and use the other computer to format the hard drive that you removed

or there are some good software out there that you can bootup with and format your drive without removing it from your laptop

a bootable spotmau would do the trick but its not cheap to buy
norton system works is another good software

pleasse let us know if this has helped you
many thanks

How to Format a Computer with Windows Vista

Warning - Formatting hard drive information does not permanently erase the data. Even after a computer has been formatted, deleted files can be easily recovered. If you want to permanently wipe your hard drive by completely overwritting hard drive data, check out WipeDrive.
To format your hard disk during Windows Vista installation, you'll need to start, or boot, your computer using the Windows Vista installation disc or USB flash drive.

  1. Turn on your computer so that Windows starts normally, insert the Windows Vista installation disc, and then shut down your computer.

  2. Restart your computer.

  3. Press any key when prompted, and then follow the instructions that appear.

  4. On the Install Windows page, follow any instructions that are displayed, and then click Install now.
    • If the Install Windows page doesn't appear, and you're not asked to press any key, you might need to change some system settings. To learn how to do this, see Start Windows from a CD or DVD.
  5. On the Get important updates for installation page, we recommend getting the latest updates to help ensure a successful installation and to help protect your computer against security threats. You will need an Internet connection to get installation updates.

  6. On the Type your product key for activation page, do one of the following:
    • If you are reinstalling Windows Vista, you should enter your product key now.
    • If you are not reinstalling Windows Vista, you can skip this step.
  7. On the Please read the license terms page, if you accept the license terms, click I accept the license terms.

  8. On the Which type of installation do you want? page, click Custom.

  9. On the Where do you want to install Windows? page, click Drive options (advanced).

  10. Click the partition that you want to format and click Format
    • If you have more than one partition on this hard drive and want to get rid them to make one big drive again, then select a partition and click on the Delete option for each partition. Once you have deleted all of the partitions, select the Unallocated Space partition and click Format
  11. When you've finished formatting, click Next.

  12. Follow the instructions to finish installing Windows Vista, which include naming your computer and setting up an initial user account.
    • If you do not want to reinstall Windows Vista, you can cancel the installation at this point and keep your newly formatted drives.

I just received the system and recovery dics from Acer. When I insert the system disc, it loads and then times out with "please wait a moment..:

Then you may have a faulty hard drive, you didn't say why you had to get them, what happened? If your drive is OK? Then perhaps you need to format it first, with say UBCD, here download and burn to CD, and it has tools that will allow you to format and partition. www.ultimatebootcd.com/
Official instructions below.

Turn on you computer, if not already done. Place the Recovery Disk into your CD Drive. Restart the computer with the disk in the drive.
While the computer loads, you will be prompted to "Press any key to boot from disk." Press a key quickly as you are only given a few seconds to do so.
Follow the instructions on the screens to format your hard drive. When prompted to format the partition on your drive or to alter the partitions, select "Format" with the arrow and enter keys. Selecting "Alter" will not recover your computer.
Once the format is complete, you will be prompted to restart your computer. Accept, and while it boots again you will be prompted to "Boot from Disk," as in Step 2. Do not press any buttons this time as you have completed the formatting process already.
Windows will be reinstalled once formatting is complete. Remove the Recovery CD from the disk drive. Replace with the Driver Installation CD. Reinstall all your computers drivers with this CD.
  • If you accidentally select the "Alter" option in Step 3, restart your computer using the button beneath the Power button on your computer and follow Step 2 again. Store any files you want to keep on an external media, such as a CD or external hard drive.
  • You will lose all saved information on your hard drive, since using the Recovery CD will set your computer back to the factory default. Do not unplug or turn your computer off while the formatting or installation is in progress. Doing so may corrupt your hard drive and might render it unusable.

Need to factor reset,|NOT REBOOT, for acer aspire 3630 windows xp

Hi and welcome to Fixya..

Reinstalling Windows XP on an Acer Aspire 3000 is fairly straightforward. You may need to reinstall Windows XP due to hardware failure, a virus infection, major hardware changes or a hard drive upgrade. Whatever the reason, you can do the reinstall yourself at home. The reinstall will take anywhere from 1 1/2 to 3 hours, depending on the size of your hard drive. Be aware that reinstalling Windows XP will format your hard drive, getting rid of all data on, so you'll want to back it all up on a media device.
  • Step 1
Back up all data on your computer before reinstalling.
  • Step 2 Insert the Windows XP disk and restart your computer.
  • Step 3 Press any key when prompted to begin running the disk.
  • Step 4 Press F8 to agree to the terms of service.
  • Step 5 Choose the partition you want to reinstall Windows XP on. This is usually "C:" for most users.
  • Step 6 Choose the type of format. You can choose either "Quick" or "Full" for NTFS systems. A quick format only takes a few minutes less than the full format.
  • Step 7 Wait for the format to complete. The Windows XP installation wizard will begin. You will be asked to choose your time zone, computer name, and to input any network information. Otherwise, the reinstall will run by itself.

  • I hope this helps

Abit Guru Ai7 Hard Drive Problem

Simply....... no. Once formatted it's reinstall time.
You can load you're windows cd into the cdrom drive & try to get windows to load. If you do get the cdrom to load - (Press any key to load from cd...... ) & press any key. Once in windows setup ( DO NOT format the drive) but do reinstall windows, if windows see's another windows on your drive, great install over it. If windows does re-install it's self you should have enough time to install burner software & back up your personal data to CD or DVD before your partition looses it's cookies & shuts you down.
You can also leave it alone & install another drive & setup windows complete & slave it back into you're system for IDE.
SATA's are all master drives. Than copy your data back to you're new drive. In these cases I always suggest the user go to the web site of the hard drive & download the Mfg's bootable software tool's/setup utilities. Windows is not perfact at formatting.

    Luck!
    Mike
