When I open the lens the camera does not come on, and no opening chime. The yellow light blinks about 7 times then nothing. I tried both batteries, so I don't think that is the problem, both batteries were working fine before.
I had this problem too. It started after the camera shut down while connected to the computer. I tried removing the SD card but that did not help. Then I read someone who suggested leaving the battery out for more than 24 hours and that worked for me. While the battery was out I also rechared it (again) for +24hrs. When I put the battery back in (without SD card) it powered back up fine. Then I added the SD card and that worked too. When I tried to view the photos on the card I found two that gave an error and would not display so I deleted them immediately. I am so happy I got this little camera workling again.

Re: Nothing on screen
Defective mechanism, a stucked mechanism is present. camcorder are smart it can detects error and shuts down itself for safety. earlier models dominoes the defect if the user is not quick enough to react when something goes wrong with the camera. it is complex you need to send it to the service center.

I had the same issue with both my D550 and D560 that I just picked up. If you are using normal AA batteries, change to Lithium. Now both my camera's are working. I used to be able to use AA's but for some reason, the ones I have picked up recently were not strong enough. Worth a try at only about $10 for a 4 pack at your local Walgreens or CVS.
some times if the batteries get wet it will short the system and it won't turn back on... if you dropped it something may have shifted inside blocking the messaging systems inside the camera. i would take it to a local camera shop.
