you might have accidentally uninstalled physically... you also might have uninstalled the driver you might have a virus if you physically uninstalled it... physically reseat the burner... if you uninstalled the driver...find the driver and reinstall it... to check for virus get dr web cure IT and do a scan... if that doesn't work call your pc tech support they will gladly help you...
Vista does not recognize many accessories if the correct driver is not present its driver database. Its not possible to install separate drivers for any additional component. Either buy a Vista compatible device or use WinXP_SP3....sodeep
Hi RC2935
Try this and see if it will help you
Here is what you do Click on start and then go to run type in regedt32 For Vista Click start and search for regedt32 and click on it Go to the following HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} Delete the upper and lower Filter or witch is available close window and restart the PC it will work This is common on the Acer, HP,Toshiba etc,etc if you need help let me know kind regards mervin
possible a loose connection, check to ensure you close the drive until a check is heard.check device manager to ensure device is listed and then go to its 'properties' ensure the current devis is recognized.you could also do a remove device, reboot, and have OS recognize a new device.clean the device with a lens cleaner.
Try cleaning the lense / As well install correct driver also; If nothing works out best alternative is to replace the CD/DVD rom with new or working once.
I've had myself almost same problem in my 5200-801, but with reading DVD's. It was allready the second dvd/cd drive replaced by Toshiba. Then I replaced the DVD/CD drive myself because I ran out of guarantee, with one bought from the internet and much cheaper than the original one. A multi drive which even do the lightscribe job and that one works very well.
