I cannot load safe mode, startup repair or restore. I do get a stop code which is. ***STOP: 0x0000007E(0xC0000005,0x00000000,0x8A767864,0x8A767560).
Try running the Check Disk Utiltiy.
To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.
If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.
In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.
In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.
I do not have a repair disc
I do not have a repair disc
Looks like you've got to take it to a computer repair shop.
The Check Disk utility will not lose your data. Also if you have to reinstall windows there is a way to do a repair install so you don't lose your data.

7E is a memory issue or general driver fault. It's windows way of saying "i dunno it just died". If you have Dell diagnostics, run a full system check, to ensure the hardware is ok. If you get no errors, then you have a driver fault in windows. This is From Microsoft:
---
If the following conditions are true, the issue might be a hardware
incompatibility with Windows XP because all the installed drivers are
Windows XP drivers:
However, if you receive the STOP 0x7E error after you upgrade from
Windows 2000 Professional, or if you recently added a new hardware
device, this issue might be an incompatible driver or an incompatible
hardware device.
---
Basically, the 7E error is a defective driver. You will likely have to get your computer recovered by a professional shop, or if you have nothing important on it, attempt to reformat and reinstall. It is unfair that Windows has borked your computer and they wont fix it. I hope I was able to at least point you in the right direction.

This is usually a problem associated with NOD32 or Cisco software conflicting with drivers or other software. If you can get past the grey screen even once, uninstall the software and reboot. If you can't get past the grey screen at all, then you might have to completely reinstall windows :(.
I'd look for professional hands-on help in this case if you're not comfortable doing this.

Did you try to "Restore this computer to another point in time"? Then you press F8, and choose "System Restore" then another screen asks if you want to go to safe desktop, or do a system restore, when you select system restore, another window, a bit like a calendar, and you choose a date prior to when you had problems?
Otherwise, please try this... when dell screen comes up on keyboard hit CTRL+ F11 twice only then you will see Dell pc restore by Symantec.Hit on restore and hit on i agree and select the option Restore the pc to dell factory settings and then it will restore the pc.
Otherwise you will have to obtain a Windows Vista install DVD, boot on this and repair/reinstall from That.. anyway try whats proposed and get back to me..

is there a program i can download from another computer that will not affect my documents
Without a repair disc or Operating System disk you will have to take it to a repair shop.
Maybe you can borrow a disk from a friend, relative, neighbor or co-worker. Just make sure that it is for the same type of operating system that your Certificate of Authentication (COA) Sticker on the bottom of the laptop (sometimes in the battery compartment). In other words, if your COA says Windows 7 home Premium, you can't use a Windows 7 Home Basic. You might have windows xp, windows 7 or windows vista, but the disk you borrow has to match because if you have to put in the COA Key Code (the series of 5 letters and numbers on the sticker) you will have to use yours from the sticker otherwise it will not activate.
