Re: amana side by side compressor not running
Cleaning the fins is always good. Is the fan by the compressor running? It needs to help cool the compressor. The description you mention sounds like the compressor is overheated and tripping the thermal overload on the compressor. See if you can turn if off for a day to let it all return to room temp then see if the compressor kicks on. If it was overheated it should run again for a while before overheating again. Let us know how that works and we can go from there.

1. is light on in side when you open the door. If not check breakers or fuses. 2. Can you hear the compressor running. If not do you hear any clicking sounds. 3. If you hear clicking sounds, try putting a fan on compressor and unplug refrigerator. 4. Wait one hour. 5. plug back in. If compressor starts let it run and see if it cools, if it doesnt, call service man. 6. If it goes back to clicking, call a service man. please rate my answer.
Many times a freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of
a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go
you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out the last two
If your refrigerator is running but warm, then...
out these tips that I wrote about that... it is a great place to
start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do
rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for
if all of that is running your ref. should be cooling.can you hear your compressor running?or can you hear it run for a few seconds and click. If you hear a clicking noise the relay to compressor has gone bad,if it is running then you have a leak in the sealed system.
if the compressor isn't running and is hot or you hear it clicking noise then replace the overload rely on the compressor its the little whit box on the side of the compressor shake it after taking it off and if it rattles and black stuff falls out the thermo disc is bad
The fan running near the compressor is a good thing. If you suspect the starter it is the little box on the compressor. It usually consists of the overload and starter. You may also have a start capacitor, if you do you will need a multimeter that can check capacitors. Read the case, it should be say like a 5uf (micro farad) or something like that. They make kits to replace the starter/overload combo and also sell just a capacitor if that tests bad. I have seen some starters that are white in color with a small white plastic clip that holds the cover on go bad recently. If you have this type, take it off and shake it. If it rattles it's bad (really).
