I've recently purchased the Electronic Cash Register Casio TE-2400.
1. I cannot set the price for an item by barcode (EAN-13) in PGM mode.
I following the steps on page 35 of user manual.
- use KEY to switch to PGM mode
- press "1" key
- press "SUBTOTAL" key
- enter unit price "2.99"
- press a department key "DEPT 01"
a line gets printed on the receipt
- scan the bar code
get a long single beep (it sounds angry!!)
- press "SUBTOTAL" key to exit
The manual suggests "Flat-PLU" - should there be a flat PLU button somewhere on the register?
I'd like to attach an image of the keys that are on the register I got as certain keys seem to have been overwritten with different functions.
e.g. "MENU" (fifth button from the right on top row) is changed to "RCPT ISSUE"
e.g. "PLU" (third button from the right on top row) is changed to "END OF DAY REPORT"
I can set the price and department of an item in REG mode (REG1)
- Scan barcode (EAN-13)
get message stating that PLU is not recognised...
- Enter unit price (2.99)
- Press a department key "DEPT 01"
This barcode item is now successfully set to 2.99 in DEPT 01.
What do I do now if I want to change the price of the item?
One would expect this should be done in the "PGM" mode - yet I have no joy in scanning any item in PGM mode.
2. I'm also having difficulties entering item descriptions following instructions on page 88 of the user manual.
I must say that I'm disappointed that the user manual has not been able to help me resolve one of the most basic requirements of a cash register.
Can anybody help?

Hi. I'm afraid this is not a 'basic requirement' of a cash register. You are working with a very complicated area of cash registers that only the medium to high end machines can even do. If you are getting stuck already, then you will not be able to work out the more complex batch processing areas of scanning either.
Your dealer should have setup the majority of this for you before you left their store (especially the keyboard layout issue and keysheet for the keyboard), then you would normally receive extensive training if you are going to be making program changes yourself in future.
You will need to learn about the difference between flat PLUs and scanning PLUs, 'Not found PLUs' like you have run into so far, then deletion techniques, PLU status programming, manual entry using OBR method etc. The book is only a guide to what you should have learnt during training. You really need to go back to the dealer and get a training session. They should be able to sort out all of these problems for you. It will take a one on one demo to fully train the ins and outs of full scanning systems.

Hi Mark,
Thanks for your prompt reply.
This kinda confirms what I had suspected. This cash register is not for the faint-hearted.
There is no dealer. I purchased this on Ebay where I was assured that all I had to do was scan in my items in PGM mode and enter the item name and price. Needless to say this has not worked for me.
Unfortunately, there is a time pressure as we need to have this in production next Saturday.
From my searching I've found a dealer manual (TE22_24DM_E050830A) that has more programming instructions. But I am still struggling with how to change the price. Following instructions on "Scanning PLU direct maintenance programming" I have managed to make the barcode for an item un-readable in REG mode - so this is progress!!.
We have a fall back position where we can set up 10 departments and scan items in REG mode and set the price and Department - This will be adequate to get started. But imagine if someone keyed in a price incorrect or pressed the incorrect department (unbelievable as that may sound!). We still need the ability to correct the price or department. And prices will change - we need the ability to change the prices.
Is there any help you can give me to change the price of an item?
Attached is the key layout on the register.
I will also ask the supplier for more information.
Thank you,

Thank you flexion1,
You're spot on.
Unfortunately, there seems to have been a bit of a problem between the chair and the cash register!!!
After reading the user manual, and over half of the Dealer manual - I went back to the box to find an 8 pages or stapled together that explained some of the tasks I require.
I have gained a reasonably in-depth knowledge of the TE-2400 and used to change the layout of the keyboard slightly.
Essentially, your method is correct, however I was struggling with the CASH,CASH,CASH - basically accepting defaults for bottle link and status and stuff..
For anyone who is interested.
Here are steps to change Price and description individually.
Change the stored Price of a barcoded Item
1. Turn key to “PGM” mode
2. Press ‘3’
3. Press ‘SUBTOTAL’
4. Enter 0171
5. Press ‘SUBTOTAL’
6. Enter 2166
7. Press ‘SUBTOTAL’
8. Scan item which requires the price change
9. Enter the new price (without a decimal point)
10. Press ‘CASH’
11. OPTIONAL - Repeat steps 8 to 10 if required for other items.
12. Press ‘SUBTOTAL’ to finalise
PRICE = CODE 2166
DESCRIPTION = CODE 2266
DEPARTMENT = 1166
Thanks for all your help,
