Had about 1500 songs on my iPod and they played flawlessly. They were not downloaded from iTunes. I got them on my iPod from Windows Media Player using a third party utility called MGTEK dopisp. After a couple years I decided I wanted to get rid of a couple albums. I downloaded iTunes installed it and connected my iPod to my computer via USB. I did not see any of my music. I only see three sample iTunes songs. Where did all my music go and how can I get it back? My old computer is out of commission because of a rootkit virus.
First off, whenever working with new software for your stuff, best to bak up your tunes......HOWEVER....all is not lost....you MAY be able to recover by removing the hdd on the old computer, copy you audios....most should be there and intact, unless the virus attacked those.....so copy those files to a clean hdd, then scan it for viruses....then you should be fine...plz post back
so sorry you tossed the old puter........you may want to look at these as options for you....MiniTool Mac Data Recovery for Mac....OR...VirtualLab Data Recovery for Mac...install on your MAC then look in your iPod for the files....if you have an IBM type instead, then try....Easeus Todo Backup Free.....these are free utilities available at DOWNLOAD DOT COM.
please post back your results
sorry, I didn't finish that up properly...you need to install either of those softwares above on computer, then connect ipod to see if the program finds them...that's the best I can come up with for you. please post back your results

SOURCE: Songs deleted, but empty space and song info. still remain
Get yourself anapod from Redchair software, this works on older PC's and you just drag and drop songs onto your ipod. Its also very easy to delete tracks aswell.Anapod supports adding and deleting photos onto the ipod.

I am sorry but it is not possible to transfer files from your windows media player to your ipod. You need to install itunes on your computer so that you can transfer your photos, videos or music.

I no longer have my old virus-ridden computer. It's long gone. Are those songs permanently deleted from my iPod with no chance of recovery? I never deleted anything, never clicked anything. Just opened iTunes with my iPod attached to the computer.
