No picture or sound when the tv is turned on. When using the on/off button on the TV it makes a long sound and then does nothing. Remote works fine. Have tried unplugging it for over an hour and then turning it on with no success. It's only 1 year old and is an LED. LG was no help but wanted us to pay to have someone come out to "Diagnose" the problem for $89.00. Any ideas to fix this?
Go PANASONIC....LG Samsung High priced Junk that is KOREAN made.Like KIA and Hyundai cars....
I see so many here with no sound/nopicture issues:
ISSUES:
1. IF sound main fuse/s are good.
2. If no power or standby check main fuse, standby power supply and any signsof damage you can see---burnt parts etc.
3. almost all these sets the troubleshooting involves checking voltages on the main power board to narrow down theproblem.
4. Be safe and if you do not know what you are doing don't open the set.
Answers to issues:
1. RE:fuses---if a blown fuse is found get a good replacement(not the genericones like Radio Shack). Many fuses are special even aside from amperage--Don'tput a higher rated amperage fuse in the set for any reason.
2. RE: power supply in set: if total dead aside from main fuse the set uses astandby power supply that runs 7/24 and a main supply (some are combined andsome not.
Here aside from checking fuses you want to examine all the filter caps on thepower/standby to see if any are puffed up or buldged up in some fashion--Iattach a photo of a good one---top should be silver metal and PERFECTLY flatand have no brown material coming out on top or bottom.
What happens in the standby area is they use caps with too low a voltage rating(saves money) which causes them to fail in a year or two---the standby runs7/24 and the heat dries out the caps and they fail.
3. Trouble shooting consists of the above and then at some point you have to buyand try a board to see if it fixes it or not.
4. Safety first--no TV set is worth getting injured or even killed over.If set is opened at least look for puffed up and bad caps like in thisphoto.caps can fail and look puffed up like this--tops must be perfectly flat.
Personal note:
I have been fixing sets for over 30 years---the current sets for most average people are not do it yourself repairs---A house call is a waste of time and money in most cases.
Two types of repair approaches are used: start changing boards until you either fix it or find it is not on any of the boards.
In shop use scope, signal generator etc to narrow down which if any board is bad and proceed.
I am old school and try to fix by repair if possible--LG and every major maker now only sells the boards--some of the off brands the boards do not even exist.
My answer above is a "stock" one meant to be a basic guide and give some ideas, I answer over 300 questions a week here for free so it also saves some time----I have had more than a few who with this info fixed the set or at least found the problem.
The shop I work for has at any given time 90-150 Plasma and LCD sets in for repair----85% are less than 2 years of age.
Most of us are used to sets lasting 10 years or more--not anymore--average life span with these is 3-5 years.

The issue you are having is your power supply
Thank you

HI:
This is a plasma unit and philips plasma's are nortorious for bad power supplys, your problem may very well be the power suppy in the television, it is possible you blew a low B+ fuse on the power supply. There is also a issue with the Y-sustain board failing in this model, If you open the back and looking at the unit from the rear the y board is on the left side of the unit and the PS is in the center. disconnect the Y-sustain power plug from the power supply and turn on the unit if the unit stays on with no red light then the y board is bad. it does the same then replace the Power Supply.

there a problem on power side.. chage the ic and the resistor going to ic and check also the signal diode.

This is probably bad capacitors on the power supply board. My LG 42LB1DR has a known problem with this and I replaced the four bac capacitors myself and saved 5-6 hundered dollars that I was also told that it would cost to fix. I fixed for under 10 dollars and about 20 minutes. LG knows about it but they dont really want to admit it. My TV was only 26 months old when this happened. The four capacitors are made by Samxon and are 2200uf @ 10v. They are junk so even if you have the entire board replaced for say $200 its just going to happen again. They need to be replaced with a different brand.
