The glass underside has smudges, how do I get rid of them?
Working with computers since 1964 (yes, there were computers even then...), with consumer scanners since 1988, servicing hp equipment and scanners since 1998, for saving my life - i never, ever see any smudging on internal surface of the glass... could you kindly elaborate how you get smudging there?
there is no consumer serviceable parts inside, these are "disposable" scanners and never intended to be repaired or serviced inside.
I have the same problem. It LOOKS like cigarette smoke condensed on the inside, except that NO ONE here smokes near the machine. EVER! Then further it looks like someone set an ice-cold drink on the middle of the glass (also can't imagine anyone doing this) and the cold caused moisture to condense on the bottom side of the glass causing the previously deposited "smoke" to form a "glass-ring" on the underside. Really like this scanner and was hoping to find out it was an easy task to remove a few screws and remove the bed glass.

Unfortunately, The 3400 series cannot be cleaned on the underside of the glass. Scanners with the capability of having the under side of the glass cleaned are listed below.

I did not know which version of windows that you have. Follow this link to download weither the complete software or driver. If only driver is availble ,download it and save it to you computer. Install scanner using START-CONNTROL PANEL- PRINTERS AND SCANNERS. When the computer asked if it should go to the internet to find driver say no and tel it whwere you put the driver. internet control panel-printers and scanners. This should work for you.If any problems just say so here and i wil give you any more info that you may need. Thanks
