Ice maker stuck on ''crushed'' ice

I have a fridgidaire FRS6LF7F side by side refrigerator. Ice maker is stuck on "crush". I looked at the mechanism and it appears that the auger should turn in the clockwise direction for cubes and counterclockwise for crushed. Is this corrrect and is there a way to solve problem without calling a repair person?

I have the same problem (and also the snapped water lever listed elsewhere on this site). What a horrible product.

I have the same problem. It just started "crushing ice and the setting is cubed. I looked at the mechanism and noticed it should turn one direction for each setting, but the auger drive only turns counterclockwise so only crushed ice. How can I make the auger drive turn clockwise?

I think it's simpler than that. there's a plastic gate that snaps UP for cubed and DOWN for crushed.
When you remove the tray, set it to CRUSHED, BEFORE putting the tray back in place.

After removing the ice container, I defrosted it, examined and moved the mechanism, then I reassembled it and it worked fine. I now have a cover over the "crushed" button in case that was the problem. Thamk you for your attention.

That means that the evaporator fan system that releases the the ice cubes is not working as it should.

That means that you need to replace the control assembly that switches from crushed to ice cubes.

Use the number listed on the owner manual if you want to call a technician.

Enter model number on this website to find schematics and replacement parts.

Frigidaire ice maker always crushes the ice

Solenoid that switches blades from crushed to cubes is most likely not working and should be replaced

Ice maker dispenses crushed ice in the cube setting. Water and crushed ice are fine.

Typical of a switch failure / control module failure so it sticks on the crushed ice setting or the crushing mechanism is u/s and wont turn off. Call a service engineer asap.

Ice maker frozen on "crushed" ice mode

Check the bar below the icemaker bin. There is a gold color metal bar that goes from the front of the bin to the back and goes into a lever at the back of the freezer. If the bar gets on the wrong side of the lever it will be stuck in crushed mode.

Ice maker only makes crushed ice, no cubes I have the same problem... The same switch works fine for the crushed ice and water setting but will not dispense cubed ice. It only gives crushed.

hi.
I slid out the tray, found the lever in the back where the rod went in, pulled it down, reinserted the ice tray, and IT WORKED! At first I thought I broke the lever, because I had to hold it down with a knife while I was inserting the tray, but it just must have been stuck.
chek these sites

There is an opening next to the auger that dispenses the ice. In there there is a lever that must move up and down. It actually seats the metal rod on the bottom of the ice maker and controls cube or crushed. Make sure the lever is down (cube position) when you return the basket to the freezer. I had to hold it down while I slid the rod into the opening. Cubes again. http://www.applianceblog.com/mainforums/showthread.php?t=783

Ice maker only makes crushed ice, no cubes

The button which selects cubes versus crushed controls a solenoid which engages/disengages the crusher. If the mechanisms which crush and push the ice from the chute are all clean, free of ice, etc., then the solenoid is not working. It either has loose/dirty connections or the solelnoid is bad.

My fridedaire side-by-side only gives crushed ice even when cube ice button is chosen

take the ice bucket out of the freezer
from the back of the ice bucket, there is a little metal bar that stickes out (back left bottom)
that little metal bar inserts into a hole with a spring loaded 'up/down' mechanism...this is stuck UP, and needs to be jiggled with your finger to spring down.
Once that mechanism inside the hole springs down, the ice maker will go back to producing whole ice cubes.

Frigidaire Gallery Series Side by Side doesn't crush ice

Ice maker

There is something called a crusher control rod located on your icemaker bin. If you pull the bin out, you'll see it protruding from the backside of the bin. That rod inserts into the solenoid, which looks like a hole usually when looking in the freezer with the ice bin removed, it's toward the left side behind the bin.

This solenoid and rod work together to give you either crushed or cubed ice. See if the solenoid is stuck or iced up. You should be able to remove the ice and push it up and down to break it free.
