The screen is very faint and has some horizonal lines that are green in color. You cannot see any of the functions, such as volume or channel number on the screen as well.
You try and push the buttons on the panel below the screen or on the remote and nothing seems to happen.
I don't want to spend too much money to fix it, but if it's a simple solution I'll try it.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I hate to give you bad news but you damaged the LCD panel when you had it out and its either live with the lines or throw the TV away, its easy to damage the panel when handling them
There are two reasons for this fault. A fault smoothing capacitor at the video output voltage rail, or excess of screen voltage. These lines are called 'vertical retrace lines' technically. Check this link for more details. It has a post, which have information regarding this fault. Go to older posts there.
you should have some perdomnint color showing on the screen EX: red or blue or green a faint line or lines may be present very common on sonys crt s are not avail any more
First check what color of faint lines comes then reduce Screen Volts in TV of that CRT (tube) Take off lower front cover, speaker grille of TV, there you will see focus control block that has 6 control knobs, upper 3 knobs are focus adjustment of red-green-blue CRTs and lower 3 knobs are screen volt controls for red-green-blue CRTs. Turn screen volt control knob CCW to reduce screen volts of desired CRT. Put TV on any free AV input so screen will be dark enough to adjust screen volts. Thanks.
If the lines are slightly diagonal and in red, blue and green you have a problem in the ABL circuit. if the lines are only one color you may take the front grill cover offf and remove the panel. look fro the black box 2 inches square with 6 little controls on it. 3 are for focue 3 are for screen the middle on of the screen is the green adjustment the other 2 should be labled r and b respectivly. what ever the color of the line turn the control labeled screen and r b or g for that color ever so ligtly counter clock wise.
Your post "...it prints very faint horizontal lines in color..." is indicative that indeed your color printheads are clogged and would need repetitive deep head cleaning. This is of course would require that you keep on cleaning until such time as the faint color lines have turned to legible print.
