The phone was dropped and now the screen light does not lit anymore. The phone works fine and the keyboard light turns on too. The screen also works fine except that it is difficult to see in the evening without the bagkground light. Any suggestions as what the problem may be and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.
I have the same prolem with mine. If I squeeze it inthe corner ofthe screen it works. The little connector inside thescreen jiggled loose when i dropped mine. I had to take it apart and press it back in. But if I drop it again it happensagain. I recommend getting a better phone.

when booting up the computer push F11 to access bios
high light standard cmos setup
see if the
keyboard is turn on and if the computer see keyboard make model should display on screen F10
save & exit setup
before i tell you the problem i have few things to clarify, for your information the screen works with two components the display and the back-light , in order to see what is displayed you need the back-light (this is that you change levels as brightness), the touch screen works separately in top of display
You can't see any light in the screen what so ever (low brightness)?, when the phone is slide up and slide down state.
Go to a bright-light lamp, bring the phone close to the lamp tilt the phone slightly in either ways and see whether you can see the display (menu or icons)
if you agree with my points, you have dead screen back-light and need to be replaced,
This EXACT same problem happened to me and I had to pay $50 to some
cell-phone repair guy to replace the whole front piece of the
phone....I HATE Kyocera and will NEVER buy ANYTHING from them ever
walk outside with your phone in hand. with one hand, hold the phone firmly. with the other, grab a baseball bat. step out into your yard, or maybe the yard of a neighbor you don't like. throw the phone straight up in the air, then grab the bat handle firmly. swing away at that bad boy. fetch the phone and repeat the process if you are not fully satisfied with how your phone functions after one whack. hope this helps
