Question about Sony KP-57WS500 57" Rear Projection Television

57 inch sony kp57wv700

Okay, I just got my tv from my ex after 3 years and it seems i have a problem. When I turn the set on it has 2 blue lines one on top coming down in a wave fashion and one on the bottom going up with the same wave fashion. After about 10 seconds the screen goes blank. Does anyone know what my exsisting problem may be and how can i correct this problem? Is the cost going to be worth more than the tv?

I had the same problem and just listed the dang TV on craigslist cuz I didn't want to spend $$$ to fix. I searched the internet to see if I could somehow fix it (not mechanically inclined whatsoever) but low and behold, I did it!!! It's so easy, the worst thing about it is unscrewing the screws! Just be careful when you finally get done unscrewing everything, be cautious when removing the bottom front away because if you yank too hard, there are wires connected to the power buttons in the front. It looks like a $1500.00 job to get fixed, better off getting a new TV. If they even make the CRTs anymore, they are about $300.00 a piece, and you need three!

Mitsubishi WS-5541 light blue glow

I know these sets pretty well--worked on a lot of them when new and later--one of two possible ideas=

1. Either a odd convergence problem==confirmed or denied by going into the convergence menu (in customer menu) and selecting advanced which will bring up a grid of lines--if see the same issue (I will attach a photo of a Mitsubishi with this problem) it can be fixed.

2. Some sort of issue with the circuit board on the end of the Blue tube(you are missing blue=black) but usually in this set if that happens it is uniform and on both sides of the screen, not the top.

Let me know what you find.
4_7_2012_12_12_34_am.jpg

I doubt it is convergence, but does not hurt to look--if the missing area was perfectly rectangular I would suspect up/down centering adjustment.

There is one other possible thing to try--we will leave it for last--set has 3 hidden menus and one is OPTION menu which allows a hard reset of entire set--sets everything back to factory except convergence adjustments which are stored in another area.

Projection HDTV Pansonic 47" Curving blue and green colors on top and bottom of screen.

You will need to replace your two convergence I.C.s.They are two large IC mounted on a large aluminum heat sink.Replace both, look for any burned resistors near them, replace those if needed, and readjust your convergence. Good Luck

Let me know if you need any further help

My picture seems to be okay, but I am getting double vision. a blue line on top of a yellow line. I don't have the original remote and cannot get it to use the intellisense feature. Can this be corrected?

Projection sets have two very common problems.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Full Color fading to blue then screen turns off. Repairable?

Here is what you need to do.

1.) You need to remove the entire plastic piece below the front of the screen. You most likely will find 3 screws on either side in back that you have to remove.

2.) The grill will not come out easy, pull from one side and then when it starts to come loose from the other side(there are several plastic pegs that hold it in.) Then from the bottom pull out( most of these sets have square plastic tabs at the top that tuck in.)

3.) With the grill removed locate the inspection plate behind it (it usually has 6 screws.) You will have to tilt the grill to the left and on its side as several cables are connected to it--they are held in place with trash bag like ties that you can release to get some room.

4.) With the inspection plate removed you will see a fairly small (about 3 inch square) BLACK PLASTIC BLOCK WITH SIX CONTROLS-usually they are marked with whiteout so someone can tell if they have been adjusted.

5.) You need to look very close at the block with a flashlight----usually the top three controls are FOCUS--don't touch those.
The lower three are usually marked Screen and if you look very close you will see b, g, r(blue green red)

6.)Usually the blue will be on the bottom left--it does vary

7.) Once you locate the BLUE screen control have the set on and turn it down--if the set is shutting down you may have only a few seconds to try to turn it down---usually to the left with the Blue Screen control.

8.) Best way to do this if the set is on is on a video input with nothing connected--you turn the blue down until the set stays on and then very slowly turn it up until you see a slightly blue screen with or without diagonal trace lines----if you get it to turn on this way turn the blue screen back down slowly until the blue screen and trace lines just disappear.

Let me know if you get it to work--Like I said if it is shutting down you may have to slowly turn the blue screen down a few times to get it to stay on.

I do this here for free and if this helps you at all give me a vote here--it costs you nothing.

Screen is too blue

You will have to take the front cover off, usually 3-6 screws holding from the back, when it does come off there will be wires to the control panel attached still. you will also have another panel to undo. after that there will be a block with 3 focus controls and 3 screen controls marked b g and r for the three colors. The blue screen control is the one you are looking for, be very careful the slightesr turn has huge response including shuting the tv off when you turn it the wrong direction to far

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

2c07611.pngSolution #1

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

HC-P4752W Blue Convergence??

You can replace the whole board, or opt to replace just the 2 IC's and a resistor or 2 that has probably failed. Lift the chassis & inspect the pins of the 2 IC convergence chips for hair line cracks around them. Inspect the small resistors out in front of the IC's for discoloring or burnt look compared to other similar resistors. The convergence board will cost much more than having the above repaced. Chips about fifeteen a piece, resisters .50 cents each plus shipping. Convergence board $100 plus.
