Dark Screen Does anyone know if this Garmin uses a CCFL(Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) and inverter in it's LCD display? I have no display on startup.... Recently repaired the same problem on my laptop (Toshiba) by replacing the CCFL. Thank you

Almost all LCD use a flourescent lamp, some very new and expensive types use OLED.

A CCFL is a Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.

Average thickness is 2mm. That is a little larger than 1/16th of an Inch.
Average length is almost as long, as the LCD screen is in height.

A screen Inverter converts the power (Electricity), from the laptop, for the LCD screen, and Backlight.

Laptops that use a series of LED's for backlighting, do Not use a screen Inverter.

The plastic thin frame in front of the LCD screen, is the Display Bezel. (Toshiba = LCD Bezel)
The screen Inverter is located behind the Display Bezel, and mounted at the bottom of the LCD screen.

Because of this; and the low cost, plus ease of replacing; most home users just opt to replace it.

Know this;
Fluorescent lamps have MERCURY inside. HIGHLY poisonous.
Now couple that with the long thin makeup of the CCFL, and how easy it is to break it.

This is why if the screen Inverter is found to NOT be the problem; I would suggest replacing the LCD screen itself; instead of trying to replace the CCFL, and cause possible Mercury poisoning.

A Backlight (Present technology) is a CCFL, or a series of LED lights.
The Toshiba Satellite P100 series of Notebook PC's uses a CCFL.

Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

Average size is approximately 2mm Thick, and the length is close to the height of the LCD screen. 2mm is a little larger than 1/16th of an inch.

This means the CCFL can be broken quite easily, as it is fragile. (You also DO NOT want to be cut by a Fluorescent lamp )

In regards to the Acer Aspire 7720 series of Notebook PC's, the Backlight is a CCFL.

(Approximately 2mm Wide, by close to the height of the LCD screen, Tall )

A screen Inverter is used to convert the power (Electricity) of the laptop, for the Backlight, and LCD screen.

HOWEVER, the Backlight bulb is located inside the Screen Frame, of the LCD display assembly.

An LCD screen is composed of layers. These layers are held in a specific pattern, by the LCD screen frame.

This is a thin metal frame which surrounds the LCD screen layers, and has Philips head screws which hold the frame together.

Does a LCD tv have a bulb in it

Sir lcd has a CCFL it is Cold Cathode Fluorescent lamp and it is powered by the inverter, this light needs a high voltage, the input supply for the inverter board is 24 volts dc. Good day and best regards.

You have to match the Inverter to the LCD screen. has to be THE Inverter.
