Question about Hitachi 43FDX20B 43" Rear Projection Television
HELLO, I BOUGHT MY PROJECTION TV ABOUT 5 YEARS AGO. I'VE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH IT...UNTIL YESTURDAY. THE PICTURE IS STILL THERE AND THE SOUND IS THERE. THE PROBLEM IS THAT IT LOOKS LIKE A 3-D MOVIE OR A GHOST IS BEHIND EVERYTHING. I SPOKE TO A TECH ON THE PHONE AND THE PERSON SAID IT WAS A BULB. ALSO, IT WAS GOING TO COST $475.00 FOR PARTS AND LABOR ON TOP OF THAT $100.00 JUST COME OUT TO LOOK AT IT. MY QUESTION IS CAN WE FIX IT OURSELFS? AND HOW MUCH DOSE THAT PART ACTUALLY COST?
If you have any solid state repair experience and know how to solder, then all you need to do is get the convergence ICs and replace them. Then the set may need to be alighned a bit. You will most likly need a cross hatch generator for that. Yea that price is a bit steep, but it will end up costing you more in the long run, if you mess up the board while soldering or adjusting the set, and after getting the parts and equipment. I would highly advise you to get another estamate for this repair. Good Luck Please do not forget to rate this thread.

I FORGOT TO MENTION THE MODEL IS 43FDX20B...OUR LUCK HAS BEEN NOT VERY GOOD. SO ANY ADVISE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
Ok, so if it's the convergence how do I replace it myself?
The Hitachi 43FDX20B has it's own crosshatch generator. See Keohi HDTV for more details on convergence alignment.

Boy that's a link and a half.
Anyhoo, I have some soldering experience and a small amount of equipent. The Convergence ICs could be replaced if I could find a schematic somewhere?
Any ideas?
I would also like to confirm the symptoms. My red does not produce a "square" crosshatch pattern, instead the left side of the screen appears arched to the center with the top lines dropping down and the bottom lines arching up. Is that definitely the convergence ICs or should I look for other issues?
I've already tried magic focus and manual convergence but there does not appear to be any way to adjust the pattern.
Thanks for your time and help.
