Question about Toshiba 36A42 36" TV

Brightness on my tv quit workin

I have a 36a42 Toshiba tv the brightness quit working and the screen is to dark...cant lighten the screen with the controls...I need ta know what part in the tv works the brightness so i can change it out . HELP!

Open your tv.At the back you see a plyback,it is big parts of tv with a wire attached to the picture tube,that is plyback At the buttom you wiil see a two knob, the lower knob is for the screen and the upper knob is for the focus.Adjust the lower knob or screen .

Have you tried using the F2 button?

Else go to system settings > displays, there you can adjust brightness as well.
Also you can switch off the auto brightness there.

If your TV has already fully adjusted in brightness set up?, and there will be no good picture results?...try to adjust the "SCREEN-Screw" at the flyback slowly. If the picture still dark'?. the picture tube has need to rejuvenate.

If your screen is that dark when it boots up, you may have lost the inverter that supplies the increased voltage to run the screens backlight. The commands for the lightening and darkening the screen are as follows.....

<Fn> and up-arrow key Increases brightness

<Fn> and down-arrow key Decreases brightness

This sounds like low screen voltage(A1)try adjusting the a1 voltage bottom control on flyback transformer if you have a voltmeter, voltage on crt base possible market screen or A1 shoud be beteen 350/500 volts when making adjustment remember to take into account current taken by meter If voaltage will not adjust flyback transformer will have to replaced

Picture seems to be quite dark when watching movies or TV shows with scenes shot at night. Almost to the poiht that the screen is black. I've already tried adjusting the brightness setting in the picture...

Turn ALS off. IT is in the same menu as brightness.

Go into the tv menu and select the Preferences menu and set your picutre preference from Theater to Normal. The TV is currently in Theater mode, wich is for viewing with no lights on in the room. Switching it to normal lightens the pictue a lot.

The Contrast and Brightness on tv appears to be dark.

If this is a CRT-based TV and it's been played most of the time, you may have a bad picture tube, especially if strong red colors bleed to the right. CRT's dim with use, unlike LCD or plasma. But it could also be trouble in the video circuits - none of this falls into the DIY category, unfortunately. High voltage involved, unless you're comfortable around it and want to try turning up the screen controls inside the TV. If you do, let me know - but "no response at all" from the external adjustments points to a more serious problem.

Picture way too dark

There is an adjustment on the rear portion of your units flyback. It controls the screen brightness. Check out on this.

Check the "screen" control on the flyback (lower knob) its easy to hit moving a board around. Try to adjust back to its original setting. Look for where the dust is, it should be on top. Or any marks might help. Other wise adjust slowly, back off if any retrace lines appear, with user settings at there normal settings.
