Above the rear left burner and below the dial controls on the back faceplace - I get smoke coming out from the oven. At first I thought the oven was just heating up and causing the tea kettle on the rear burner to steam, but last night the kettle wasn't there and the smoke detector went off. Is this a normal thing? - like a relief valve for the oven or something??
SOURCE: message panel keeps flashing F10 error
Code F-10 indicates a temperature runaway. There are two possible problems. 1) The oven temp sensor has failed. This can be checked using a standard multimeter. The sensor is located behind the rear access panel of your oven. The sensor should read about 1100 ohms at room temperature. 2) The oven control board needs to be replaced. There are no FRU's (field replaceable units) on the control board. Check the sensor first. Even a new control board is cheaper than a new oven.

Sounds like a heating element. Same thing happend to my oven. You can find them around 50-60 dollars. Veryy easy to install, just remove a couple of screws and remove old element and put in new one. Make sure you shut off power to oven firstg of course.
SOURCE: Smoking Kenmore
Hello oliver909
Welcome,
You said,Smoke is coming out of the back of my gas Kenmore oven. Oven is clean -
no spills/debris. Ran clean cycle and broiler did not smoke. Warmer
drawer at bottom, so nothing spilled there. Soon as you turn it on,
downstairs is full of smoke. Sometimes after preheat goes off, smoke
clears and its fine. But I'm afraid to use it because last time I saw a
flame inside.
If your afraid to use it, do not hesitate to call service. Nobody wants a fire!

Yours is the first complaint I've read of an exploding heating element.
Do a little research to see if there is perhaps a safety recall on this problem; a Litton combination range (microwave built into the otherwise conventional oven) was repaired at no cost some 7 or 8 years after we bought it for a design defect involving the magnetron getting soiled by food that had spilled or boiled over and created a chance of fire while in use.
It's worth looking into since the replacement of the electronics is likely to be costly.
