SOURCE: how do i splice the power cord back together

Hi,
You will need to cut away the outer rubber insulation. Be careful not to cut the insulation on the 3 separate wires. Then you will need to remove about three fourths of a inch of insulation from each of the three wires. If you can solder, then solder the black to black, green to green , white to white. Then Tape with electrical tape each wire separately. Do a good job of taping. If you cannot solder, then go to a hardware store a buy # Wire Nuts. Take the loose end of the cord with you so as to get the right size of Wire Nut. The wire Nut repair is bulky , but secure. You are using a lot of Amps with the Steamer so you want a good job, lest the repair gets hot. Either repair I mentioned will work safely and well.
Good Luck !!!!!!!!!!!

SOURCE: how do i replace the

Does the machine still run OK?
and the cord is not broken or badly kinked in any place

If so-- then maybe just the re-wind mechanism needs replacing.
This is going to require opening up the machine, and getting deep inside for repairs.
are yo equipped with the tools and patience to tear into the depths of this machine?

Another thought to consider:
The repair parts will likely cost close to $50-- is the machine about ready to fail in other areas?
How are the hoses?-- does it have necessary suction for your work? How old is the machine?

It might be good for you to take the machine to a Vacuum cleaner repair guy that you trust, and ask his honest opinion.

Dog chewed on the power cord, how do I replace it?

I would try to find a repair shop to replace it as bissell does not currently offer replacement power cords (atleast not on their website) if your power cord is only chewed in one place you could always just splice it back together and use some electrical tape. sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Dog chewed cord on bissell model 6579-2 how do I replace it?

You can cut the bad section of wire out of the cord, cut the insulation on the cord to get to the wires. Match your colors, strip the insulation from the individual wires and twist together. Wrap each wire with electrical tape (making sure no wire is exposed, can be a fire hazard), then wrap the cord with electrical tape. The cord will be a little shorter, but should work fine.

My dog chewed through the power cord (luckily unplugged). Are there replacement parts available and I can't seem to find out to detach the cord from the unit.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. There are replacement parts available for the replacement of the power cord and to check your owner’s manual to see the schematics of the replacement of the cord. You can check with your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or you can call cust serv @ Bissell @ the phone # listed below. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
