It used to be that occaisionally our Fisher and Paykel dishwasher would not get the dishes clean -- they were a little greasy with small specs of food. It had clearly run, but something had not gone right. I always assumed there was some fussiness about how it was loaded that I didn't really understand. However, the last 3 times we've run it, the dishes have not come clean...leading me to believe there's something wrong with it. We've had it for several years, so it's not that we aren't used to it.
Hi,
The scum, film and white
residue problems have started since the reduction of
phosphates in dishwasher detergents.
Here is a tip that
will help you to solve the problem of films, residue, and scum in
your dishwasher.

Fisher and Paykel dishwasher not getting my dishes clean. Its less than a year old
This just started happening to us, too - we even paid a registered fixit guy to come see what's up, and his $115 answer was "nothing".
Help! - would rather not replace this stupid thing, but we've been in the house with it for 2 years and have spent over $400 in repair bills so far. And I've NEVER called a repair guy on a dishwasher before in my life. Isn't this thing supposed to be good? It's certainly expensive.
This is Connie308 again. I took the bottom stuff all apart so I could clean out any gunk down there (there was very little). In doing this I discoverd what I believe was the real culptit -- a straw from my son's sippy cup was blocking the spinning thing at the bottom of the dishwasher. I removed it and voila, the dishes are getting clean again. Whew.
How do you get to the gunk>I get as far as removing the rotating blade, but I am stopped there.
