Picture has waves and double imaging of text, expecially on bottom half of picture.

This is probably a convergence circuit failure and the STK392-120 chip failure. Replace BOTH of them. you can tell if you go to the setup menu and go to picture->manual convergence and look at each color multipoint setting. If they are way off and will not adjust, then that is your problem. I ordered mine from MCM electronics for about $13 each. A local "authourized" shop charged me $450 to "not" find this problem.

DOUBLE IMAGE ON SCREEN. tOP OF PICTURE LOOK LIKE A

That symptoms are due to failure of convergence out ICs in your TV that will be replaced to get correct converge picture on front screen.

There are 2 big black IC mounted on big aluminum heat sink and number would be written on as STKxxx, these 2 ICs will be replaced.

If you want to repair TV by yourself then confirm model number of TV to provide you more info or call local tech to replace said ICs.

The bottom of the screen has an wave pattern of discoloration and shows double. The picture is very difficult to see at times.

your prism is off balance. it's like a shining a light into a mirror and point it into a specific spot. that mirror is out of sync, causing the image to move, which in your case it's a double image. the best way to fix this is to get a local repairman to fine tune your pic. again, the repair cost is between 200 to 400 bucks. just giving you heads up on that.

Double images and colors are blurry .Blue,red and yellow wave coming up from the bottom of the screen on the lower left symptom is for busted convergence IC,you must replaced this IC in order that will works better again.STK 392-xxx ICs and it's associated resistor,this resistor automatically change value,can caused truoble even though you change the ICs.If you bring this to a service center they cost you $600 to $700,but if you buy the repair kit you can save more,don't wory it is very easy because there is intallation guide including in the repair kit.
