Question about Compaq Presario 2580US Notebook

3 Answers

Error #1802 I am trying to use the restore discs to restore my 2580US laptop. All is well on discs 1 thru 3, but when disc 4 (final disc) gets to 79% entire process/82% copying data, box comes up with ERROR #1802 Image file is invalid or corrupt. What can I do to correct this problem? I have repeated restore discs twice and problem still remains.

Hi GDiddy, It is possible that disc 4 contains a bad/corruped file, but it's also possible that the disk itself has a slight imperfection preventing the laser from reading past a certain point. I suggest you try cleaning it and I don't mean with a soft cloth. We use on e of PerfectPlay's system's to recover scratched/damaged discs and we have had tons of success with them. I'm not suggestion you run out and buy one, that would be a little extreme, but depending on where you live there might be someone near you who offers this service. For a list of Perfectplay users in the UK/Ireland then try this link. http://www.perfectplay.co.uk/pages/servicecentres/ Regards Jerbear

Hi Gdiddy, You've got a bad file...it happens. You need a new copy of disk 4, best bet would be to contact HP (Compaq) support here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/contacthp?lc=en&cc=us&dest_page=product&query=2580us&docname=c00248814&product=374872&dlc=en Good Luck, Dude

SOURCE: partition not 100% on laptop 700 presario

From the description loo\ks like it's not a partition problem, but the Compaq CD.
Try to partition Hard Drive using Windows 98 bootable CD.
Try to install Win XP from different CD - doesn't have to be Compaq. Later you can download drivers.

SOURCE: trying to restore windows xp

Have you tried pressing the "Pause/Break" key on you keyboard ?
How many times have you tried to use the restore CD ? And if so do you have the same results ? Make sure your restore CD doesnt have any scratches on it or dirt on the read side as that may prevent it from being read. Also you may have to select to completely reinstall the Windows XP instead of just selecting "repair". The message may be the key.

Boot up to slow

Hi ladurisjames...

Your computer sounds like it is loaded with "junk"
Lets start by doing a disc cleaning, then a defrag of the hard drive, and then get rid of unwanted pictures, programs, etc.that you never use anymore from your computer.
Last resort will be a System Restore.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------1...Disc cleaning...Click on Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools> Disc Cleanup
2. Defrag the Hard Drive...Click on Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disc Defragmenter.
3...Delete any unused programs,files,pictures...etc.
4. Final resort: System Restore...this will restore your computer to a time when it was operating good, you have to pick the date when it was running good....Click Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore
After you have completed the above your computer should run faster.
