My baking element just caught fire tonight. I had just used the self cleaning feature last week so over very clean. Baked bread this morning. Oven still clean. Baked a few potatoes tonight about 400 degrees. About 30 minutes into it I heard a loud sound come from my kitchen like a cartoon character just got fried by an electrical box. Thought it was strange but didn't hear it again so when my potatoes were done I opened the oven and the baking element was glowing about an inch section and it started sparking and I thought I saw a small flame. I closed the door, turned off the over and it was spreading. I turned the beaker off and it started to slow down and then burned out. The section looks bubbly and rough. I unplugged the stove and now I guess it's time to replace the element I guess.

this a common complaint when the element burns out it is scary to see but all you need to do is replace element
SOURCE: Oven Door is locked and will not open
On many freestanding stoves the lock motor is located in the right rear (looking from the front) with a long rod connected to the lock. Pull or push the rod to move the lock to the open position..

oh bleep, right? well, if you're lucky this will get you going again. 1. disconnect power to range. 2. remove back metal cover just above range power cord (usually 5 quarter inch hex screws) 3. look for burnt off wire leading to/from bake element. If yes, 4. strip ends of broken wire and splice with ceramic wire nut if no 4. bad news. replace ERC (electronic range control) you fried something on the board. It's got the clock display and all the electronics behind it.
