I called Cub Cadet and found out there was a recall on the LT-1045 series. They sent me free of charge a repair kit including a belt, pully and brackets.

FINAL SOLUTION TO FIX THE BELT FROM COMING OFF LT1045 WHILE MOWING!


I also had this issue with my LT1045 belt. However, I just figured out how to finally fix / re-engineer my LT1045 Cub Cadet from having issues with the belt coming off of the deck while mowing.

Taking it back into a shop for repairs will not work, the belt will just come off again the first time you mow. I am making a YouTube Video to help others like me with this mower issue and will post a link here soon showing how to fix this design flaw.

It took me about an hour to fix but I've got it working now with no problems, minimum vibrations and belt is running cool now! I've gone for 2 months with no problems now. Check back soon for the link!! I expect I will have the video tutorial finished within a week!!

SOURCE: idler arm 1045 cub cadet

Check for alignment of all the pulleys--esp the idler arm. Probably enough out of alignment to "work" the belt off----possibly bent?

Likely the deck idler pulley is loose or bearings are shot. The pulley should not wobble and the flat side of the belt should ride square against the pulley face (the pulley should be reasonably perpendicular to the deck). If not, the idler arm pivot is loose or the pivot bolt and arm are shot. Check proper tension is applied by idler pulley torsion spring (the belt is not loose).

be sure the belt guides are in place. they hold the belt in so the belt wont fall off when not tight or at an angle.

There are 2 springs on the deck. One attaches to the cable. Where does the other one connect. There are no pictures in the manual.
It looks like in this manual there is a belt that ties the two deck spindles together the manual calls it a timing belt and looks like it is coged and there is a idler pulley that keeps this belt tight, that second spring pulls on the arm that the pulley is mounted on giving it spring tension If it is a timing belt I would look under the deck and make sure one blade is pointing forward and the other pointing sideways so they dont hit each other when passing.I have not seen anything like that sense the first Cub Cadet the made which did not have a Number because there was only one . How to replace mower belt for ZTR cub cadet mower
Changing the Blade Drive Belts:
a.Set the parking brake. Remove ignition key and both spark plug caps.
b.Unscrew the wing nuts from the deck covers and remove both covers.
c.Using a 3/8" socket breaker bar or socket ratchet insert the drive end into the 3/8" square opening in the lower idler arm assembly and push the idler arm counterclockwise. While holding the idler arm back, loosen the blade drive belt from the pulley and slide the belt away from the pulley.
d.Remove tension of the PTO belt by moving the belt tensioning rod. Loosen the belt retaining bolt.
e.Pull the tensioner pulley away from the belt and remove the PTO belt then remove the blade drive belt.
f.Reverse the process to install the belt.

How do you replace the mower belt on a cub cadet?
check the alignment of the ideler pully to make sure it is even withe the drive pulleys. if not in line it will cause the belt to break. There is a spacer that is on the idler that should be on top and not on the bottom of the pully.
