Issues with Streaming Movies. Running Windows XP Professional 5.1 with all Essential and Non-Essential Updates taken. I can go to a website one day and it works for a few hous fne, and the next day I can be in it 30 seconds and thenlose mouse. Sometimes it wil be temporary (ie 1 minute) other times it doesnt come back and I have to FORCE closure of the PC and ggo through he pain of the Blue Screen. The loss of the mouse is due to the CPU running at 100%. So far tried:- Increasing the paging range to 1500-2500. Cleaned everything. Updated all drivers Updated all latest versions of software/apps. Checked Add-ons but nothing to turn off or on. Run Registry Cleaner and Defragmented it Check Disk, Repaired, Defragmented and Optimised. Clean all Cache/History (daily) Removed non-essential start-up programs. The increase of paging has helped the most and it happens less, but it still happens.
LOL 512MB is mighty low for streaming movies. And a 36GB Hard Drive is low too. Have you checked to see how much space you have left on the hard drive? Click Start/My Computer and then Right Click on the Local Disk C Drive and select Properties. It will show you a Pie Chart of how much space you've used and how much is free. I bet your disk space is pretty low.
Thaks for the response. Yes realise its old and busting at the seams. Heres some info for you to digest via HIJACKTHIS.
Also have an attchment for Hardware summary..but not sure you can add attachments??

tricky!! oh hi im Dyanne.. a totally unresponsive black screen can be th result of failure of th LCD or LCD inverter.( a specialized piece of electronics that energize th screen) to rule out th failure of th video display adapter or circuitry, try plugging in an external monitor..a standard pc monitor.. attached direct to th lappy. if it works, (as i susopect) th motherboard and video display are both working ok and its th LCD which is at fault. this can sometimes be repaired by a competent specialist. good luck xx

Probably your power supply. They are pretty cheap to replace. If it's plugged into a power bar then try plugging it directly into a wall socket just to make sure it isn't your power supply.

uninstall the audio drivwers first and then restart the system and let system search for the drivers automatically
SOURCE: Adding ram do I need BIOS update see detailed question
Although bios update can be "risky" people do it all of the time. As to the ram costing you alot I do not agree. Just saw it on pricewatch for $10
