Vizio model: P42HTDV10A This TV is about 6 months old. Recently, it will turn itself off after about 15 minutes of operation. This usually happens twice causing me to have to turn it back on manually. After the third time it appears to stay on as normal. Does this indicate that a component may be failing?
I have a vizio p42 and i have sound but no picture i have tryed to reset it but nothing works

If you only have it for 6 months, you should have it service cause it is under warranty!!
Don't waste anymore time and money when there is a manufacturer warranty.
Now,for the rest of the users,if there is SOUND but no picture. You should narrow down the problems by testing and connecting each one of the video inputs behind the TV and be SURE!
If you have tried all the video inputs behind the TV and still no pictures, there are 3 different possible cause which none of them is worth fixing it by yourself but to have a repair guy to do it,cause you would have to spend money to randomly buying these parts and see which one works! Not worth it.

I have the same TV. It started doing the same. Now it will shut off completely(no yellow light). Unplug overnight doesn't seem to help but sometimes it comes back on after a day(plugged in).

Our 42 " Plasma tv would shut itself off for no apparently reason, then about a month later it just went DEAD. Have other Vizio owners had this problem. Vizio tech said they would come out for a $500.00+ general service charge and fix it. That is crazy.
I have a 42 inch Vizio plasma that does the same thing....randomly shuts off. Started to do it occasionally, then more frequently. Now it won't stay on for more than 15 minutes. Oh, and the HDMI input also quit working. The TV is barely two years old.
tv turns off constantly while vewing it might stay on for 5 min, 10 min, 15min. etc i am really fedup.
I have this problem now with a Vizio 42" plazma, but also had it a couple years ago with a Vizio 32" LCD. My understanding is that it's a common problem with the power supply board. I'm probably going to replace the board, once I check out more blogs to see if anyone has found that as a solution.
My 42" vizio plazma is only a month and a half old and it shut off and will not turn back on i hate vizio they **** i would not suggest buying one of these tv's to my worst enemy ever !!!!
42 inch shuts off...no power...vizio tech support won't answer even when calling during hours of operation
