SOURCE: dryer works fine but does not heat up

Hi, looks like there's 1 of 2 faults. Either the stats or the heating element. They are located at the back of the TD, covered bi a screwed panel. If you have a multimeter, turn it to buzz and check the connections. If the meter buzzes it's ok, if the meter doesn't buzz it's dead and needs replacing.
Cheers

SOURCE: Hoover TCE660 tumble - no heat

Common faults -
1 The heating elements can fail (meaning open circuit)
2 There are cut-outs (T.O.C's) that might need resetting
3 The thermostats (stats) can trip out or burn out (meaning opencircuit)
4 Moderntumble dryers also have sensors and pcb's (Printed circuitboards) thesehave programs that can fail and circuitry although most should produce an errorcode showing you were the fault is.
5 Faultyconnections and burned wires may also be the fault.

SOURCE: My hoover condenser dryer model

Hi Alan....

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.
Check to make sure you are getting full 220 Volt power to the dryer, if you are then:
Check your Wiring
Often the main wiring connection from the house, at the dryer, burns and the connection breaks. If this has happened to your dryer, you need to replace the power cord and the terminal block inside the dryer to which the wire is attached.
Check the Door Switch
If the door switch or the door-switch actuator is defective, the dryer won't work and you need to replace the failed component. The switch is inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch. Check for continuity you should have none with door open, and should have a reading when closed. If not replace the door switch.
Check to make sure you heating problem is not a lint build up in the discharge hose or the dryer,as this condition can cause heater/thermistor problems such as overheating of the heating coil leading to failure of the coil and burnout of the thermostat/thermistor due to overheat.
Remove the back/or front just under the door of the machine and try to locate the air duct going from the blower to the drum. Normally inside/outside the air duct you will find the heating coil and the thermostats/thermistors. Once you have located the heating coil, remove the two wires from it and check the coil with an ohm meter across the two terminals of the coil.
You should read continuity across the terminals, if not you will need to replace the coil as it is faulty.
If the heating coil is ok, then:
You can check the thermostat/thermistor one at a time by removing the two wires and taping them together with electrical tape or with an ohm meter to test the thermostat/thermistor. (Should have/show continuity)
If the coil heats up then replace the thermostat/thermistor.
(Thermal fuse.If it overheats the dryer will not operate. It's located on the blower housing. It cannot be reset. A vent clogged with lint can cause it to overheat. You can test it with an Ohm meter or continuity checker, if no continuity, replace it)
DO NOT LEAVE THE WIRES TAPED TOGETHER AFTER THE TEST.
This could cause a FIRE, as you have removed the safety of overheat from the machine.
Right after replacing a dryer element, always run the dryer on 'air fluff' / 'no heat', and go outside to verify there's plenty of air coming out your vent system.
If the vent's clogged, that new element can burn out very quickly.

I have a hoover nextra dryer hnc 170. The drum will not turn, and both the lights for filter care are on. I assume the reason it is not turning is because of the filter care light. Is there anythin i...

the filter care light comes on when the machine is over heating so the "brain" thinks the lint trap is full , clean the entire venting system, including the outside vent cover and remove any debris , then unplug the machine for a few minutes and see if it resets

Vaccum seems to cut off after short use like its hot,,once it cools off i can use again

Check filter. Clean if needed. The filter should be cleaned when it appears dirty. Simply remove filter, rinse thoroughly under warm running water until clear, then allow to thoroughly air dry. The drying is very important. Additional filter cleaning instructions are on page 13 of the manual.
Check the pleated exhaust (HEPA) filter. If dirty, cleaning is necessary. Instructions for removal and cleaning are on page 14 of the manual.
Check hose, wands, and power nozzle for blockages.
Hose: detach at both ends. The ends of the hose are the most common areas for a blockage. Check visually and clear as much as possible if present. If not visible, hold one end up and drop a coin in. Lift the end until the coin falls through. If it doesn't, there's a clog.
The easiest way to unclog a hose is to use an air pressure hose, or a canister vacuum that has an exhaust blower that the hose can be held too. If enough pressure, it will blow the dirt out. Make sure to put a plastic bag around the loose end to hold the dirt.
Visually check wands and power nozzle. The bend in the power nozzle connection is another common place for clogs. A wooden spoon handle, or similar blunt object, can be used to push the debris back toward the brush to clear a blockage here.

If none of these are the problem, contact a vacuum service center, preferably Hoover, for assistance.

Hoover Light on

ALTHOUGH MOST FILTERS SAY WASHABLE THEY DO STILL NEED TO BE REPLACE AS WASHING THEM SHRINKS THE FILTER AND EVENTUALLY CLOSES THE AIRWAYS. WHICH ALSO IF NOT REPLACE WILL OVER HEAT MOTOR IN MACHINE AND CAUSE MOTOR FAILURE.

Hoover Z-400 - Hepa Filter

These filters should be changed at least once a year, they get clogged up and won't clean out. So I would try a new filter and go from there, make sure there are no clogs in the hose and down below where the dirt inlet is.

Filter lamp flashing

The condenser has two "channels" one for the moist hot air that are easy to clean and inspect. The other flow is perpendicular where cool air drawn from outside and passes through. These channels, viewed from the side can get blocked over time with dust/fluff. I blasted mine with a pressure washer and it was obvious from the change in light when looking through it that it was clogged before I blasted it.

Dryer stuck in sensing mode

Since no help was available without premium assistance, I actually contacted a repairman. He performed all the tests again and told me the problem was the control board. Then wanted $600 to fix. I found the part online for $150 and fixed it myself in about an hour. Instructions were easy.

Hoover u5720-900 quits running and restarts again after some time

There is one more filter under where the collection tank & Hepa filter sits -- there is one screw that holds the cover down - remove that filter and clean it that will help. I also find I need to vacuum the hepa filter as well- it is too expensive to replace all the time. The Hepa filter can be placed inside a plastic bag and shaken really good to get the dust off of it
