take it back and demand a full

1. they miss sold you a PC with XP when it should be Vista
2. it looks like a NON GENUINE windows xp

if they refuse tell them you going to report them to the authoritys for illegal software and get their business closed down

To verify that your Windows XP is geniune head to microsoft's update website and download the WGA tool to check.

If the Copy of your windows is not genuine/pirated version, once its connected to internet and recieved updates from Microsoft it will show this message, there are two options before you,
1 Try to get a genuine copy of Windows 2 Try to Download and install WGA Remover from http://www.brothersoft.com/removewga-download-62674.html
Referance : You may be a victim of software conterfiting this copy of windows did not pass geniune window validation

this error is comming up as the OS that you are using might not be a geniune one ,
well their are two ways to do this either you uinstall and reinstall the OS or
try to follow these steps

my computer>c drive>windows>system 32>look for WGA.DLL and WGATRAY.dll try to rename these file and this will definetly work

Well if you have already accepted the Geniune Advantage Check or Validation, then turning it off might be impossible until you get a genuine copy.

To Turn it off, you have to re-installing a fresh copy and dont accept the Check Windows Geniune Advantage Validation tool or messaeg when an update of such appears unless you're sure you have a geniune copy

This needs some understanding of OS only. Don't worry.

Now, coming to ur first problem... u can change the bootup xp options by modifying the c:\boot.ini (be careful too...and u r right, it will not slow down ur pc)

reg. the bootup disk problem, ... u may need to create a bootable CD for installation... u may get the 'bootstrap' CD image from internet (but, r u having a licensed version???)

Your friend will have to settle for an older version of Media Player, or download a copy using an internet connection and a his valid copy of Windows XP. The software you downloaded is single-user type, which Microsoft authorized for the computer you downloaded it with; and won't install onto another machine.

Buy a legal copy of windows XP SP2 and register via internet.
