When changing stations with the up or down buttons, the channels keep changing on their own. The same applies with the volume control.
I've changed out the remote control, but the same happens.

The up/down button is worn out (guys do this, since we love to channel surf). Keep the original remote that came with the TV (they're invaluable), but buy a cheap universal replacement remote (I got my last one at Dollar General for $8), program it for your TV, and surf with that - you'll get power ON/OFF, channel up/down, and volume control from any universal remote.
the stations are changing by itself on your TV because the channel button on
the TV is partially stuck in, that is why it keeps changing all by itself.
This same thing may also happen to the remote control of the TV if the channel button of the remote stuck in and pointed at the TV.
Use your finger to rub the buttons on the TV, especially the
volume control button. Do same on the remote and most definitely
problem should be solved.

Just a word of thought. Make sure your remote control is not pointing at the TV. Ive seen this many times. A faulty remote control sending out random signals to the TV due to fluid spillage in the remote. Try keeping the remote well away from TV and see if it still changes channels. If not, check the channel up and down buttons on your TV. Do they feel faulty when compared with volume buttons etc? If so, you might have a channel button on the TV that is half stuck in. Hope this helps :)
If you can change channels with remote then TV is OK because it has only one infra red receiver (remote receiver) to catch remote signals. So TV remote seems bad as it works on channel buttons only. Here is an easy test for remote, watch remote front through any digital camera or even cellular phone camera will work and press channel button on remote, you will see blinking LED at front of remote while watching it through camera. Now press other buttons of remote and I'm sure that LED wont blink.
Here is the solution. I have had this problem for 2 or 3 YEARS... (I finally gave up and just changed the channel manually).
The solution is exceedingly simple. You'll want to punch yourself (or at least, I did... :-P )
Press Menu. Press Menu. Press Menu (3 times total) THEN, scroll down to "Channel Fix"
It will say either "3" or "4." What this does is it makes it so that your HDTV is always on channel 3 (or 4) when you turn on the device... AND it apparently disables the channel functions of the remote control, for some inexplicable reason.
All you have to do is change this setting from "3" or "4" to --> "OFF"
You will now have full channel and button control.
