Black and White !!!!!!!!!! aaaahhhhhh

It indicates that the color wheel is not working. Either the plastic color filters are gone, or you have the color turned down in the settings. First try going to menu and check the color level setting turn it up and see if that solves your problem.

Check the orientation of antenna.

By poor color quality, do you mean that if you turn the color control all the way down, the black and white picture is more like black and red, green or blue - or do you have a good black and white image? If the B&W image is good, and the TV is an old (8+ years) one, maybe the mirror inside the set needs a good cleaning - especially if there are smokers in the room. If you have a B&W picture that is tinted, then you may have to go into a service menu to adjust it back to a better picture. Hard to guess the problem without more specific description of symptoms.

I want you to do a simple visual check of something that will tell me what the problem may be.

Go to a channel that is in black and white--old movie and tell me what color the screen/picture is.

You can also turn the COLOR in the customer menu all the way off and look that way.

What we are trying to see here is if TRACKING is set correctly or has changed. If the screen is somewhat to medium reddish it may be an adjustment outside of the customer menu.

Let me know what you find--I have seen several of these where the black and white picture was somewhat red--the idea is it should be as close to black and white as possible--if red is the predominant background color the picture will look reddish.

Open the menu and navigate to the color setting. Make sure it is not reduced to the off position.

you are losing one of your color tubes for it to be goiing to black and white.

this is a common fault adjust the little black box in front behind the small wooden cover. you will see 6 controls don't adjust any of the top 3 only the bottom knobs 1 for each color. slowly back the control counterclockwise turn the set on and wait untill it shows a picture, slowly adjust the control for the color in question utill the color balance is correct- black and white with the color setting turned down all the way with the user menu when balance is ok you are all set.. turn the color back up with user control. rtepeat process if needed.

replace tuner

check your menu settings if not there then you may require board level service.or eprom sub menu adjustment.
