Question about Proxim ORiNOCO (8480-WD) 802.11a, 802.11g/b Wireless Adapter
I have a Proxim 8480 Gold card and it was working fine until a couple of weeks ago. Now when the computer boots up with the card I am getting a "Found New Hardware" and it shows PCI Device. After removing the Orinoco driver and reinstalling I may get the computer to recognize the card. If it does and leaving it idles for about 4 mins., it then locks up on me! I have to remove the battery pack from the computer to unfreeze the system. Anybody else or any suggestions on what's going on??
It may be that the driver being used ia a generic one that Windows updated if it's on automatic, and not the driver you got with the adapter. Start from beginning again, uninstal card and drivers if still there, but make sure Windows looks to your installation CD for the driver and not a Windows generic one. You may have to re-start your system, and make sure your router sees the card in it's ip address allocation.
